Help Overcharging?

I also posted this in the OTA Update Problems thread, but I'm not really sure that it is update related. If I leave my Verizon S4 on the (factory) charger overnight, it is soft-bricked in the morning (with red LED glowing) and I have to pull the battery to get it going again. This started (I think) after the update (yes, I did a factory reset) and all is well if I only charge enough during the day to get to 100% capacity and then pull the cord out. It's almost like the phone doesn't recognize that it's at 100% charge, and keeps going until some sort of overcharge protection kicks in and shuts it down.

Anyone else? Thoughts? Warranty return in my future?

Hello Allanlaw.

I doubt if a return is needed (it's possible, though). I suspect the charging circuit outside the phone, in other words, the port (bent or broken contacts), or the cable and/or charging block.

Examine the port for damage or dirt (if dirty use rubbing alcohol on cotton).. if damaged and it's only a bent contact, you may be able to unbend it carefully yourself, but I'd take it in.

Also make sure the battery and the contacts it uses are all right. Clean if necessary (a pencil eraser works pretty well for that).

Test for the charging cable and/or block by borrowing a known good one.
