Pre-ordered at local store today

So I was at my local Verizon store today and I asked if they had a dummy on the Incredible to get a feel for its size. Of course they said no, I have to wait until the 29th. I said I would be back on the 29th, that I did not want to pre-order online. I asked them how many units they expect to have and he told me each store is only receiving 10. Jokingly, I said please hold one for me. They said they would but I would need to pre-order it right now in the store. Sure enough, he pulls out a form to pre-order and hold the phone in the store for me on the 29th. The form had a bar code scan which generated a receipt in my name to hold a phone for me. The catch is, you have to purchase a $50 gift card at the time of orde, but that gift card can be applied to the full purchase on the 29th or for any other Verizon accessory or even apply it to the balance of your bill. They told me I have 2 days to pick it up and after that it would go back in stock. I know I want and will like love this phone, but I'm coming from an Eris which I love the size and feel and am hoping the Incredible feels the same way. So my order is in and I'm excited to physically pick it up and have it in my hand on the 29th.

I just spent $50 which went right on a Verizon gift card that can be applied to the full purchase on 4/29 or any other Verizon product/service or bill. I got a voucher receipt showing that the phone was pre-ordered for in store pick up on 4/29. I would have gladly paid the whole amount in full today. I'm just glad that I don't have to rely on a shipping service and I can walk into the store at my convenience on the 29th and it will be waiting for me.

Don't you have to pay $299 for the phone if you go to a VZW store and you then get a $100 debit card in the mail as your rebate? I think if you pay online you just pay the $199 with no debit card hassle.

Is there any benefit from purchasing from Best Buy?

Yes if you buy in the store you will pay $299 and then have to wait for your mail in rebate. Plus you also have to worry about stock from the stores getting pulled to fill all the online pre-orders that already paid for the device. Not sure about best buy i always go through telesales.
