Help HTC Hero - Trackball Sensitivity

Hi,
I have a new HTC Hero (running new firmware) and all is fine except for one query regarding the trackball sensitivity.

Basically it seems way-too sensitive for me, I find that the slightest touch moves it. For example it's very easy to over-shoot scrolling down a web page with multiple links and select the wrong one.

I don't know if this is a feature or a fault since I have no other Hero to compare it with. (May be I have fat fingers!)

Also I few (rare) times either the trackball has "moved itself:thinking:" or something else weird has happend because I've seen the centre homescreen move on its own to the right... Which again makes me wonder whether there an issue with the trackball.

Thoughts appreciated.

Cheers Ian

I've noticed the same thing on my htc hero. I thought the trackball was defective, because I've encountered the same kind of behaviour you have described above - sometimes the cursor moves by itself and the trackball seems fairly loose. But now your post calmed me down as it seems to be a standard behaviour. In other respects I'm blown away with android and hero. Great OS and great phone. Happy to have one. Cheers, Abe

Yep, have the same issue & the ROM update has not changed this trackball behaviour.

It is probably the weakest bit of the Hero & unless you need to be very precise with where you are clicking on an internet page hyperlink, I use it very little.

Interesting that the Sprint Hero has a redesigned trackball which is larger, so I suspect HTC have realised their design mistake.

Hey ho...........

Im having the same issue...unfortunately its not the first issue Ive had with my Eris, and Im about to throw this thing out the window.

My trackball moves on its own. (No, I am not touching it, Nothing else is either. The phone isnt in motion. There is NO explanation). This is making texting OR TYPING anything JUST COMPLETELY IMPOSSIBLE.

On top of that, my phone freezes about every other day, to the point where the only way to remedy the problem is to remove the battery and replace it.

I didnt want the Motorola because Ive had so many problems with them in the past, but I think I hate HTC more. Should I just return this phone? Help!!

I get this on the new 2.1 update too.

To repeat, in the HTC Mail application

1. Open any mail
2. Press and hold trackball or long press mail
3. Select Copy Text with trackball click
4. Cursor appears at top left of mail body, but rolling the trackball barely moves it at all.

Trackball works perfectly in other apps, in all directions, so its not a faulty trackball, its the code in the Mail app surely?

Oh, and the trackball is fine for moving the caret in text edit fields, like an SMS when you're writing it.
