onboard storage vs sd card - how do music/video apps see it?

Maybe this is more of an android question, not sure, but here it goes:

so the incredible has 6+ gb of onboard storage, primarily for media. if i buy a micro sdhc card (say 8 gb), will the music/video player apps see both storage devices and merge all songs/videos into 1 selection screen, or is it like a real computer/os and i have to swap folders/drives?

if it's the former, will it be seemless? what happens to play lists? can i have a play list that spans on-board songs and songs stored on the card?

thanks!

The issue appears to be that some of the flash was allocated as app storage and the rom is only storing the OS (hence only 6.6gb showing in built-in flash, but 748mb for app storage). Since some of the 8gb flash is allocated/mapped as app storage, apps apparently do not see any of the flash memory correctly. Not sure if the fix would be firmware or a need for all app makers to (once again) have to account for a change. All apps that install data or read the storage card are affected. Only media seems to work in the storage.

No other answer, since a 512mb rom can not have the OS and preinstalled apps, and have 250mb free, yet alone 748mb free.

I've been wondering about this too. In looking at the screen shots of the memory (such as Anonimac posted) it appears that the 700+MB is for app storage and the remainder of the 6GB is used for data storage. I'm new to Android OS, but from what I've read the app memory allocation is plenty for most people. I'm hoping that rushmore is wrong about apps not seeing the 6GB correctly because that would very frustrating to have all that memory sitting there wasted. I'm searching around on the forums to see what others are saying.

On a real computer, you can use the command "mklink" to make a folder (or file) seem like it's in another location for programs etc. At least vista+ can.

I doubt the android can. What you could do is have videos with one player on one and use a music player with music on the other.

Some reviews have already stated that apps can not see the space and only media work. I hope this is changed so apps can see it as non-framework storage. Apparently only some preintstalled apps see it. Not sure if just data, as far as third party apps not seeing it.

I run android on a Htc vouge and all I do is create a folder on my sd card and name whatever I want like "Music" or "MP3s". The apps on the phone will search and find the music. There's a ton of cool music apps and widgets. I have root acess on my phone and can do anything on the phone such as create folders, edit text files, etc. Android is very simple and just plain works. If you have never experienced android before you will love it. The music apps can even be set to find there own album art so your music displays cd covers. The music app/widget I use is "3" search "rockon" in android market and you will find it for free. I put all my media file on my sd. Create folders for wallpapers, music, videos, etc.

that is my question: if i have mp3s on both the onboard storage and on an sd card, will the music player automatically combine both sets into 1 "gallery" of songs to play?

or is it like a traditional computer where i have to switch drives/folders?

or are you saying that even the music player is an app that can't see the flash memory correctly.

if that's the case, then what can read the flash memory correctly? sounds like nothing can - so what good is having 6+ gb free on the device?
