Help Placement of a Video File on SD Card

Hi Guys:

Was looking around the forums and did not find an answer I was looking for.

I have a Samsung Galaxy S4 with an installed SD Card. I have movies that I want to place on my SD Card and not sure which directory to place them in. This is the list that is on my card:

Albums
Android
Books
DCIM
LOST.DIR
Music

Those are the directories, I do not see a Movie Directory as on the phones internal card.

Do I make a directory called Movies or should I just place them in one of the pre existing directories?

I am using windows explorer to do the move.

PS: What is a good movie app, or should I just use the one on the phone?

If I'm right, each application has its own location for theirs files. For example, if you use a alternative program to take pictures, it will put pictures in its own directory as Whasap does.

In think you can create your own directory and then use your favourite program to see the videos. For example, "Galery 3D" scan the directories and show all pictures and videos of your phone.

It doesn't matter where you place them. Feel free to create a new directory or put them anywhere else - it won't make any difference.

Android scans for media files and should find them wherever they are.

I use MX Player (free in Google Play) because the built-in player sometimes wouldn't show videos I had taken myself in the correct orientation but the built-in player does mostly work fine.

If there is a problem with whatever program you end up using, you might try using the "My Files" program to set the video directory as the one you setup on the MicroSD card.

DCIM (aka Digital Camera Images) is where your phone will store most media, including video. Except for 3rd party apps, most of them have their own folders.

Anyway,you could create VIDEO folder right there inside DCIM, so when you want to copy stuff, everything is in the same place.

I think, most galleries won't show folders as albums separately if they are inside of DCIM.

I want to thank everyone that replied to my question.

Everything went as planned. I use "My Files" (windows explorer would not work)to make a directory under DCIM and called it Videos. It already had a directory under it called Camera. So now I have Camera and Videos. I copied a video "Recount" an HBO special that I was and extra in. It was a mp4 to start with and it ask to convert before copying to the Videos directory. I said yes to the conversation. It changed it to a wmv file. I then clicked on the Gallery icon on my phone and it brought up three selections: Camera (from the phones storage) Camera (from the SD Card) and it came up with Videos (from the SD Card)

I was able to play this movie/video with no problem. Everything went as planned.

It depends how the videos are encoded but you may as well install the additional codecs too. I did and so far I have not been unable to play a single video I have tried.

I get that Auto Conversion of video format window very often, whenever I transfer videos from PC to phone using USB cable. I always ignore the conversion and just COPY PASTE. They work like charm. Mind me asking where does your video come from? The source that make them incompatible?
Just curious, and it will prevent me from facing possible problem like that in the future

You're welcome, but although you can do that too with My Files, but that wasn't quite what I suggested. That program also allows you to set default folders for "Images, Videos, Documents and Music." I was suggesting that if whatever video program you use can't find the folder you created, using My Files to set the default MIGHT help it find them.

Incorrect. The Gallery shows the separate folders (album names) of several folders I created inside DCIM.

Media Scanner runs nearly every time you turn on your phone and it parses all of the internal and external memory finding every piece of multimedia on your phone. It really doesn't matter where you put it.
