Help General email app issues

I actually triggered an issue with this myself.
Just as an FYI to everyone...

If your rooted and you use titanium to back up your apps, don't use it to restore the mail app.
The reason: it does not add the "sync account" so it will not appear in the accounts list and it will not automatically download messages.

It works manually just fine.. so i you open the mail app it will sync immediately and if you "pull down and release" it will sync as well.

It just will not sync on it's own.
So, beware if your using titanium to restore the settings for this app.

Hi everyone
I have an annoying problem with my new HTC One.
Sometimes I receive emails - but the content text (or part of the text) is missing !

It seems to be simple emails with simple text, I've experienced it a couple of times (all forwarded emails with attachment doc's - in case it matters).
The other day the full content was missing, today most of the text except the signature text of the original forwarded email was visible.

Any ideas?

and just to ask some questions to make sure we are all on the same page:

what carrier?
what message app are you using?
are you rooted?
does this occur on wifi as well as cellular?
does it occur with only one sender or does it occur regardless of who sends?
do you have any sync errors when this occurs? (look in the sync tab under settings and see if any sync errors are listed--would be a red sync circle icon)

to the op,
if your girls phone works, why not copy her settings over to your device?

if you are using the stock email app,

what accounts are you using that have this issue?

how long have you had this phone? and has this issue been happening since day one?

do you have background sync ticked?

Thought I would post too as well as the opp. I just did a search and read one of you earlier post about installing the yahoo app from the play store. Email is now instant. Thanks marctronixx! Opp give this a try.

Ok since posting this I've kind of pieced things together and realised that most of my apps require me to actually go into them and update and or sync them. My weather app constantly says 'no weather data available' and my shazam never has data available on the widget until I refresh it.
I am just using the stock email app but I use the gmail one too sometimes which has the same problem.
I use gmail as my account.
Ive had my HTC one for a few months
I actually noticed this happening a lot on my iPhone before this too but I just put up with it.
Might sound like a silly question but where is the background sync button?
Also, my girl has a slightly different setting arrangement which makes me think maybe she has a different OS to me.
Confused..

rooted?

are you using stock email app? gmail app? other 3rd party?

install or uninstall any apps prior?

how many email addresses do you have?

any sync errors in the sync tab in settings?

same behavior over wifi as well as cellular?

remove the email addresse(s) and re-add?

Not rooted.

The issue is with stock email app icon.

No

Only one email account with the stock app. Gmail has its own app.

Gmail had sync error, but it shouldn't affect stock app (I guess).

Yes.

Will try this later.

you are correct. gmail and stock apps are different, however I did not know which mail app you were talking about.

removing the email address and re-adding may solve the issue.
Well, f***ing Gmail had 2 unread messages. And I think stock email icon removed that blue circle with number 2 after I checked those two Gmail messages before I removed and re-added email account to the stock email app.

Well, it happened again. I have one email notification - blue circle with 1 on email icon and envelope in the status bar at the top. And there are no emails in the stock app and no new emails in Gmail. WTH is going on?

Update.

When I pulled down status bar it showed that I had one message in my Gmail. When I checked the message in Gmail it cleared notification for the stock email app. Something is wrong!

hi,

need to ask some questions:

are you rooted? (probably not but need to ask)

what carrier?

has this happened since day one of owning the phone?

are you using the stock email app? gmail? some other 3rd party app?

how many email addresses?

Are you new to android and how the htc system works? or are you a previous android user?

if you are using the stock email app (not gmail), there is a tab up left that you can tap. opens up a drop down list and you can select which email address you want to check.
if you are in a particular email address, top right there is three vertical dots. top is folder. tap folder and this opens up another set of options on how to view your email.

all messages shows ALL messages of that particular email address.

so check those, respond to the questions, and report back to the class. :)

Are you sure you haven't selected All Accounts like in this screenshot. It will then put all your emails from all your accounts together.

I have the same problem. Everything syncs EXCEPT contacts, it ALWAYS says there was an error and it will be back again shortly. If I add a contact from Gmail through a browser and then sync it always shows up on my Android device, but NEVER the other way around. This problem has happened with the stock ROM and 5 custom ROMs. App Data, Browser, Calendar, Drive, People details all sync without error, but Contacts Always says "Sync is currently experiencing problems, it will be back shortly."

Not sure if you guys have solved your problem, but I have a suggestion. I had this issue, too and ran into this solution, which worked for me. Basically, stop the sync and remove the account from your phone. Then, log into that account online and go to your google account settings/dashboard. Under your account's Security section, go to the bottom to Connected Applications and Sites and click "review permissions." Then, revoke access granted to all of the android login services that show up. At this point, reboot your phone, add the account back to your phone and sync it up, then see what happens. This worked for me instantly, though it does take a few minutes to get all your contacts re-synced.

I can't say for sure, but removing all the different access points may ause you to have to re-login or re-grant access to other devices, such as chrome or a tablet, etc. I have't seen issues, but I dont have a tablet and chrome is one of the 2 or 3 browsers i use regularly, so i didnt notice anything there. Really, it's meant to help pull clean permissions from older android devices.

Good luck.
