I recently bought a Samsung Galaxy Centura with prepaid Straight Talk service. The problem is my data connection is slower than what it should be. I get 3g with full signal in my area, and it downloads at an average of only 15kb/s. My previous phone through Straight Talk was a Samsung Galaxy Proclaim, a much similar phone, and it would download at 100kb/s in the same area with 3g as well. I rooted it and changed the DNS to GoogleDNS and its not showing any real difference. Something seems not right about it. Any tips? Are there more effective DNS servers that I could use? Thanks for any help.

The thing about Straight Talk is this. Read the Fine Print. Unlimited Data does not include streaming of any video! If you're watching Hulu or YouTube or Vimeo, you're more prone to throttling than if you're just Facebooking, Surfing and emailing.
Which is kinda wierd...I have the Galaxy S2 (ST branded) and it came loaded with youtube. I use wifi alot.. but even when not on wifi i stream pandora and youtube and have never had an issue. Maybe its because I never jit the 2gb max.

Well of course if you never hit the 2gb limit it won't be a problem. I think the biggest culprits are torrent streaming sites and peer to peer most likely. Streaming audio like Pandora aren't really bad. It's video mostly that has large hunks of data passing through.
