I've been wanting to get my Maxx into car dock mode for ages now. Any idea how to do it without buying the actual VZ dock?? Won't work with cases. I'd be happy if I could get the HDMI appearance, which is when you plug in the HDMI the unit goes into landscape mode, including the APP drawer. Been wondering about using a dummy HDMI cable to do this? Anyone tried it? Seems pretty ignorant on the part of Moto to not allow landscape mode when the phone is sideways. Or at LEAST allow a switch to enable it! I'm tired of cocking my head sideways when the phone is in its dock on the windshield. Ideas?

Have used Car Home before. It is not the same as simply having landscape mode on the phone where the icons rotate when the phone goes to landscape. Car home is a completely different setup. It's simple, really. When the phone goes landscape, so should the icons and the apps so they can be easily read, including the widgets. Reading them sideways on my cars windshield isn't exactly the best situation.....

If it's landscape mode for all screens that you want, have you tried any alternative 3rd party launchers? I have both Nova Launcher and Atom Launcher installed on my phone and in either of those two launchers (and many others, I'm sure), you can set all screens to auto-rotate when you place or hold it in landscape mode for app icons and widgets. You're right, with the stock launcher, the homescreens and app drawer are always in portrait mode only.

I have the actual car dock, but I wanted car mode for my bicycle. I downloaded QuickShortcutMaker and by trial and error looking for "dock" found the correct app. It puts a shortcut on your homescreen, you can name it and change the icon, to whatever app you set up. If you use the car dock app this way, you can't hit the back button, it will exit, you have to hit home and just minimize. QuickShortcutMaker is free on Google Play: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sika524.android.quickshortcut

Might be what you're looking for.

Downloaded Quickshortcutmaker, did a 'dock' search and a few things popped up. Tried most of them and none of them switch to landscape. Which one did you use?? I'm not seeing it here....

In activities, search vehicle and you'll come up with a bunch of choices for vehicle mode. I can't remember which one it is and I can't read the descriptions at the moment, don't have my glasses.
