I'm so very tempted to throw my Droid up on the classifieds forum and pre-order an Incredible. What do you guys think I should do?

Give up your DROID, do it. DROIDNation doesn't need any fairweather owners. Besides, it sounds like you don't need all the much convincing to get the Incredible anyway. Otherwise, you'd already be happy with the feature-rich content of the DROID. But do a search, and I'm sure you can find a number of posts cataloging the short-comings of the N1/Desire/Incredible, not the least of which is the screen (faux-resolution, color inaccuracy, cracking, etc.)

I am happy with the Droid! Trust me, I am! It's just that I one of those people who always has to have the latest and greatest gadgets. Those screen short comings were actually enough to turn me away though. I haven't done any research on the short comings. What other are there?

I guess I'd ask what the Incredible does that the droid doesn't??? It's slimmer...but not by THAT much. It's definitely lighter but I almost see that as a negative...I like heavier phones. 8MP camera??? I doubt it will take 8MP "quality" photos...just like the droid doesn't take 5MP "quality" photos.

No keyboard? Damn...almost a deal-breaker for me!

Looks alright but I'm not ready to give up my droid for anything else on the market or even in the pipes right now.

I think I would personally stick with the Droid until something that stands out comes along. The Incredible is only marginally better, at best, from what I have seen. Unless you are a huge fan on the Sense UI...

If you believe the Verizon propoganda machine, 4G is supposed to be a reality in a 1/3 of the market by the end of this year. So if you are in a large market area, you may want to hold off for a phone that is 4G (if you take Verizon for their word).

Regardless, no matter what you decide (resisting your urge to buy the newest, shinest phone out there) I would wait for at least a month after the rollout to see what kind of bugs, imperfections, etc are in the phone. Get an overall consensus and opinion of the phone before you make the plunge...

You probably just bored...flash a new ROM or theme and get your droid love moving again!

I got a HTC Touch Pro 2 for my new business phone. You want to fall in love with your droid again...pick one of those up! And it's the best WinMo phone out now...sad isn't it?

How about the 8GB internal storage that's hit-or-miss (more like miss) being recognized by apps that need to read the SD card? How about initial reviews of the battery not quite hanging in there for the length of the day? How about the likely issues that you'll encounter with the rumored Froyo hits and Sense UI inhibiting a timely update? Never mind the existing barriers of having VZW QA/QC the update delaying even more, as you are well aware of owning a DROID. Even though it's on the VZW network, initial reviews have showed that the Incredible is displaying weaker than average signal strength. I mean, it's definitely the best phone on the VZW network, but if you're "one of those guys," then you'll constantly be on the hunt for the latest and greatest. Actually, it sounds more like a pathology than anything. And as far as the "latest and greatest," the Incredible is not, especially with the Evo4G looming, poking and prodding at you telling you that you just got the second best Android offering. With the rate that Android is pumping out phones (have you SEEN the Dell offerings proposed to run 2.2?!?), why get this phone now?

Slimmer by 2mm. Lighter because HTC didn't employ an metal chassis. Plasticky has been the word passed around. Take a look at the sample shots from the "8 MP" camera... not that great. 8MP is like 1GHz. It's a pitch word. It helps sell phones. But as any one who knows how digital photography works, we know that the Nokia CEO is smoking crack. You can't pack that many pixels in a tiny package and expect brilliant photos. The elevated noise will only be exacerbated when you blow them up to normal viewing size.

Two words: GAME GRIPPER. For $15, you have an awesome gaming platform. With developers having the NDK in hand, now they can make use of GL and put out some brilliant 3D applications. Froyo that will come will speed up the DROID also with an updated kernel. More freed up RAM, speed, just the kind of thing to keep the DROID fresh. And going back to that update, with Sense UI, how long will it take for the Incredible to get it?

Rumors that at Google I/O event will be announcing Froyo and people in attendance will get a Nexus One and a... what's that? And what? Oh yeah, a DROID. People in attendance will get an N1 and DROID. While the DROID may be considered the forgotten, ugly stepchild, it and the N1 are the only ones running pure 2.1 without skins.

Good decision

If we're just talking STRICTLY about the two phones - I mean, if you laid them both on the table and money was no object, I'd recommend grabbing the Incredible (which I'm lusting after too - mostly because I don't want this physical keyboard - but I ain't paying no full retail for it. Ha! My Droid will do just fine until my contract is up.)

HOWEVER, in the reality of things, the Incredible isn't exactly lightyears ahead of the Droid. AND there's LTE in 2011 - You know what that means...That means you already know that you'll be getting another phone then, and you don't even know what phone that will be yet!

As far as "negatives" to the Incredible: as someone else mentioned, it's got the same screen issues as the N1. The N1's 3G problems are also being chalked up to hardware issues (and TMobile's general crappiness), though, it remains to be seen if the Incredible will have those 3G issues or not.

If we're talking about other stuff in the pipeline, Engadget caught up with some phones Dell is dropping later this year and they kinda made me drool a little bit...(Until I read the AT&T part. Ha!)...And even those phones, which are coming out in 6 months, don't have provisions for LTE. I'm tellin ya, the LTE factor is HUGE.

So, right now, I'm agreeing with UBRocked. You're probably just a little bored, so do something different with your Droid for a bit and save your money for something more splurgeworthy, not an incremental upgrade to what you already have.

I believe we are a likely candidate because we represent a purer Google experience than other HTC phones equipped with 2.1. As far as hardware is concerned, other than the Nexus One, the DROID is the only other phone capable of handling a full upgrade. In fact, some of the upgrades rumored in this update are proposed to fix certain elements in the DROID, like the low-resolution thumbnails. Obviously the updated kernel, freeing up more RAM, etc. will benefit our phone. On top of that, Froyo might be Google's first attempt to mitigate the fragmentation that's happening in the market. The Nexus One and DROID will likely be the most likely of candidates to experiment the roll-out of a "CORE" update with features being found on the market place. Again, the rumor is, every participate at Google I/O will get a Nexus One or DROID, so that points at the likelihood of us receiving the update concomitant with N1. Again... all rumors, but likely.

Dude, if you're bored (like I am sometimes), and maybe you're hesitant to root (like I am, sometimes), look forward to when voiding your warranty isn't a financial liability and root the phone. Overclock it. Enjoy the full breadth of Android at a breath-taking 800MHz. Our chip is still clock for clock faster (maybe not more efficient power-wise) than the Snap. So many reasons to wait, especially with LTE (like someone said above). No reason to jump ship now. Like I said in another thread, the Incredible is a phone for those users who were on the fence with picking up a DROID, maybe want to migrate away from at&t and iPhone and needed a good reason. For many of us, that happened with the DROID and we're satisfied. For others, the Incredible will be their jump ship device. I just can't justify the decision to pick up an Incredible knowing its short-comings, particularly on the update front (I don't know why anyone would pick up a NON-Google phone for that matter) and the screen issues. Not to mention, it doesn't sound like the 3G issue was fixed for this particular hardware.

I've seen a bunch of Web ads that advertise Droids for $19.95 for new Verison lines and $49.99 with a two year extension of an exsiting verson line. Are those for real? Or is it some sort of scam? The best price I get on the myVZW site is $149

If I buy a Droid now, will it have Android 2.1 or 2.01?

What are the differences between the Droid's UI and the Sence UI that's on the Incredible?

The droid will either have 2.0.1 and it will ask you to upgrade to 2.1 when you activate or it will already come with 2.1 (I am assuming the first). but if your up for a new every 2 I would suggest trying both and seeing what you like more. if money is an issue you really cant go wrong with the droid. Those web deals you have to really look at the details to make sure that includes NE2. Also the diffrerences between the UI on the droid and incredible is pretty big. Droid is stock google android. just 3 screens that can have widgets added to them. nothing special. Sense has 7 screens with interactive widgets and Flash lite (dont know if flash lit eis any good though). I hear the sense UI on the phone is hella nice too since the hardware can finally run the software.

I suggest try both though and see what you like

HTC is ok if you are willing to deal with poor hardware. Me, I would rather have good hardware and basic software than poor hardware and great software. Besides, the software on Android can be changed so much that it doesn't matter if it's flashy out of the box.

Realize that the reason Google is giving up on improving 3G on the Nexus One is because of bad hardware design by HTC and tell me you still want an HTC device...

The Droid Incredible is considered to be the fastest android phone on the market... even faster than the Nexus One even though it has the same 1Ghz processor. The camera also is far better than what the Droid can do. There have been mixed reviews on the actual feel of the hardware, but if you don't use the Motorola Droid's keyboard... then that's a whole bunch of wasted space.

Is it true that the Droid has slowed down a lot since 2.1 was released? Or is it just an issue affecting a small minority? I tried the Droid that they had at the Verizon store and it lagged like crazy. With the live wallpaper in the background, it was virtually a pain to use.

If you really like the Sense UI (and it can be turned off if you don't want it), then the HTC Droid Incredible is way to go. If you plan to just root it, then you'll just be left with a phone that has much better specs... the 1Ghz processor is a huge improvement. Who knows what it can be overclocked to?

My experience. In March, I bought an Eris. Played with it for about three weeks and realized that having a physical keyboard was an absolute must. I also did not like the feel of the phone - it was too "petite" (and I'm a female). The Sense UI was very cool and I definitely miss that, but I know I can eventually customize my Droid to get very close to the HTC look and feel.

I HATED the phone dialing on the Eris and the physical call/end buttons. The trackball was a good idea, but a royal pain in the next.

So for me, althought I loved the software aspect of the Eris, ultimately, it was the hardware the drove me nuts. You can always change software. You cannot change hardware. I realized the Incredible was going to be very similar in form factor to the Eris and that was it. I got a Droid.

I did check out Amazon Wireless VERY thoroughly and was literally hours away from ordering from them until the price on a Droid went up to $129 for existing customers. That was with a new 2-year contract and my NE2 for $100. I decided to go to a Verizon store and do the mail-in rebate thing just in case the Droid wasn't truly what I wanted. If you can get a Droid for 49.99 as an existing customer, I would do it. In a heartbeat.

How high can you overclock the nexus one's processor? 1.2Ghz is stable and very fast on my phone...I don't know that the snapdragon is really that great...I'm not sacrificing battery life and my phone keeps pretty cool considering it is running two times the Droid's stock speed.
