Forget the market!

So I recently had to find the apk for the skype app and install it to my eris myself because it wasn't showing up in the market for me. Which is something I didn't even know was possible until yesterday... but it just got me wondering if there are any other apps that are known or rumored to be missing from the market with people who installed 2.1 manually, or if there are just any other useful or cool apps that people have made but have to be installed manually. Is there a website or database somewhere with stuff like that?!

Theres a few websites, but i won't tell you where or how to find them. You should only install apps you've paid for, but if you've paid for them then by all means if you cannot get them from the android appstore then find the apk and install it manually until it does show up on the appstore.

I think you misunderstood what s/he was asking. I don't think it's about getting paid apps for free but wondering if there were other apps out there that you can't find in the market.

I do a lot of my searches on Androlib.com. It doesn't know what version your phone is running, so it shows all apps that match the search criteria. If there is one you're interested in you can scan the QR code which will easily open the app in the market - if it's available for 2.1. If it's not available on 2.1, that's you're hint to start searching elsewhere.
That doesn't quite answer your question, but it gets you one step closer. :)

So, how quickly do the mods shut down this thread? Advertising for sites that may or may not contain pirated apps are not encouraged. As for the OP, finding FREE apps that are not available for your phone that are available for others are not likely to be populated in a site that is not already populated by PAID apps being pirated. So, the answer is there is no site like that. There might actually be a reason for why certain apps aren't available for your device.

I'm sure that there are plenty of sites out there dedicated to pirating apps. Pretty sad really. People can afford a nice smartphone and the data plan that comes with it, but aren't willing to pay a few bucks to a hard working developer for a nice app.

With that said, there are also a ton of apps that were available to us on 1.5 and are not available to us on 2.1 now. The majority of them are paid apps, which we shouldn't be downloading. However, some of them are free apps like the tv.com app that is protected (no idea why) and blocked to those of us using the leaked 2.1.

The only real option that I know of to get these free apps, since they are usually not found online elsewhere, is to have a nice member that is rooted back up and upload the app to the forum.

If that was a shot at me, Androlib is a legitimate site, not some place where you can get pirated apps. To my knowledge you can't actually download apps from there, all you can do is scan the QR which will link your phone to the market, where you download or purchase like usual. Think of it as an online Market.

Well theres a few but most of them have paid apps hosted on them as well. Of course i could be overlooking some sites that just feature software not available on the app store, i guess i've never done a search for such applications.

Looks like a slippery slope then. I often wondered the question as the OP since I got my phone. I think it was Iheart radio that I downloaded straight from their website and not in the market so I've often wondered what else is out there. Definitely not trying to steal from the devs though. I agree with OTD, it's sad spending all that money on a phone and plan and won't spend money on apps when most are $2 or less.:D

yea, I guess I should have been more clear... I was only referring to apps that are blocked to us on 2.1 for whatever reason, like the Skype app. I just thought maybe their were other apps like that or maybe some that some dev made that just isn't on the market for whatever reason. I wasn't trying to find some pirating app website or anything like that.

My eris that I put 2.1 on doesn't show many apps. I want to switch back to 1.5 but cant now. All the games the Camel Games make, like "Shoot U', "Blow up" and "Papa stacker" are all games I have paid for and they dont show up, even if I search. "What the Doodle" Doesnt come up either. My brother has the Driod, and many cool paid apps he wants me to get are not there, it really makes me mad. Even the 1.5 had them. Is there any way to fix this..

well not to worry. 1 of our very great devs will be soon releasing an app that will open the whole market up. he is testing it as we speak. look in the root section for more info. so just be a lil more patient guys/gals

I will go read about this but I also wish there was a developer friendly way to obtain "copy protected" apps somewhere other than the market. I had an awesome experience with one particular developer who made available an ad supported version so that I and fellow 2.1ers could have access to it. Don't really feel it fair to keep asking developers to do this though. They didn't use "unofficial" firmware!

Another developer I was talking to named a place in his email that I would soon be able to purchase the app from but I deleted the email so quickly that I forgot the name, maybe he was speaking of the above mentioned app.

P.S. XXXXXXXX is a website that you can get APK's for free.

Reported.

With all the negative comments in this thread about app piracy, you really thought that post was a good idea? The fact that you are willing to take a developer's hard work because you are too cheap to pay for it or too lazy to contact them about another way to get it is pathetic.

Posts like this make me wish we had an anti-thanks button.

An anti-thanks would just cause too much drama, however, I would still use it.

I just don't understand it. Most apps range from $1-3. That's like stealing a 79 cent Snickers bar... just buy the dang thing.

whats so hard to understand about people wanting to save whatever money they have, add that on top that you can find every app on the internet for free, and well, ill just get the dang thing for free.... but hey, keep giving out that 1-3 dollars so the devs dont stop making apps that i can get for free, thanks buddy! youre a swell pal!

Okay, to that other girl. I use that to get the apps I have already paid for. Which is like almost all the ones that were worth paying for. If I get new apps from there, and I like them, I buy them so I can get the updates and everything.

And the problem with buying... I already have once. and im 15. no job.
