Seidio's waterproof case available for preorder; shipping 19 Aug

I want it, but will only be using it when necessary (work, backcountry, kayaking) and will revert to my preferred minimalist case for everyday use.

Will the OBEX screen guard work with or mess up my screen protector? I use the cheap ones from Verizon, three for 12 bucks. I don't want to have to replace my screen protector after every use. Thanks

This is pretty expensive, but I badly want it. I could use a waterproof case.

I only have my S4 because I got my Rezound wet. I used it for 1.5 years without ever dropping it. I want to be able to use my phone without having to worry about damaging it. Being able to take photos underwater is a bonus.

As well as I. I just hope I never drop it into a manhole where it would be unretrievable!

Seidio will tell you that you should expect to see decreased performance if you use a second screen protector. However, I'd like to think the S4's sensitive touch sensor will make up for that. I have a Zagg on mine, a little thicker than others, I don't plan to replace it every time I use the Obex.

There is a company in California called Liquipel which does a complete gas chambered nano coat giving you a case free waterproofing - if you aren't interested in cases. I prefer a larger case, just makes me feel better about potential drop hazards.

I may have to order one of these cases. Extra protection for my phone and it looks thick like my OtterBox. Do like.

Expensive, but waterproof is quite an accomplishment. Even the S4 Active is only water repellant.

I would consider anything that can go a meter underwater to be waterproof, so that's not accurate. However, the case DOES have a better waterproof rating than the S4 Active, it can go >1 meter versus </=1 meter for the S4 Active.

Seidio Obex = IP68
S4 Active = IP67

Obex case can go down to 1 meter (3 feet) deep under water for continuous submersion, or to 2 meters (6 feet) for up to 30 minutes.

You also have to go without your phone while they work on it. Another disadvantage is if your phone gets replaced by the carrier because something broke, you can't take the waterproofing with you.

We do not recommend you use a screen protector along with the OBEX case as it will interfere with the screen sensitivity.

Well yes you have to go without it, but I survived fine without. I have an S3 that I use when my S4 is out of commission.

The point of that was to inform people who hate the bulk of large cases that there ARE other options.

Also "may have to get one" can be updated to "I pre ordered it" as I am someone who does like thick cases.

Lastly I never have to take my phone to my carrier for replacements. I fix my devices myself -IF- they are ever damaged.

I understand you recommend I don't use a screen protector, but will it work? What about with the extra sensitivity setting the s4 is equipped with? I'm happy to have slightly reduced functionality on the occasions I will use the OBEX to not drive myself crazy trying to get a screen protector on straight and bubble free after every use. Basically, I will not order this if it absolutely will not work with a screen protector installed.
I only ask because this is not an everyday case for most, rather an as needed case.
Anyone coming from an s3 use this type of case with a screen protector?

Since screen protectors vary, we can't guarantee yours will work with the OBEX. The OBEX provides screen protection so we don't recommend use of any other screen protectors as it may interfere with fitment or screen sensitivity.
