It's really a pity this device isn't getting more lovin' from the Android community. Even when compared to the Moto X, the 5" RGB screen, EXTREMELY thin profile and slightly bigger battery should make this a contender for anyone on Big Red.

So who is out there considering an Ultra?!

The X is the darling right now. And until people can get their hands on the Ultra its probably not gonna get much love. I'm leaning more towards the Ultra, but I haven't seen a new review on it since release day while everyone and their brother has an X and has been able to post a review of it. Hard to love something that you know so little about.

Of the new releases from Verizon, this one will be a flop. There will be 3 Droid devices to go along with the Moto X. At least with the Maxx, there is the bigger screen, increased battery life, and wireless charging. The Mini is cheaper, smaller screens for those who prefer that, and has wireless charging. I'm not sure what the Ultra offers other than being the thinnest phone out there and doesn't have wireless charging at which point the Moto X might be the better option if you prefer that look (custom colors) and the obvious hype that it has.

the ultra will sell the best of the 3 droids. it will be the default recommendation from the sales reps to the average customer that walks in the store.

The will only recommend the maxx to power users. otherwise they will say 28hr battery life is more than enough for you, and look, i just saved you $100.

I have the Maxx on pre-order.

I could not see why there was an Ultra and a Moto-X other than the cosmetic customization initially only available from AT&T.

Why would someone choose the Ultra?

I currently am using a Bionic and it is setting on a table top a lot of the time and I manipulate the screen and it is rock solid.

It is clear that the Ultra will provide the same experience.

With the curved back ... will this also be true for the Moto-X?

There was a video early on in the "epic release thread" in the Moto X forum that showed a guy trying to manipulate the device one handed with it on a desk. It kept spinning around on him because of the curved back.

I would *hate* that. I use my phone all the time with it on my desk and me typing on it. You'd need to put it on a piece of memory foam or something to keep it still.

Wow did *anybody* buy an Ultra?? LOL.

When I held it it was so uncomfortable. I couldn't imagine who would buy it with 16GB internal and a too thin feel and don't even get me started about that awful fingerprint magnet glossy plastic covering they put over the kevlar.

With the Maxx right next to it, I can't imagine this phone will sell many. I do predict that the mini will sell very well though.

Well... the only justification I can make is that 2 bills is easier to lay down for a lot of folks than 3 bills is. Yes, the Maxx is really the way to go if you can afford it. But if you can't, the Ultra isn't a bad phone. And personally, between the Moto X and the Ultra, the Ultra wins hands down. If just on screen size and the Ultra's capacitive nav buttons alone.

I got the red one on release day. It felt better in my hand than the Maxx did and I couldn't justify spending the extra $100 for extra memory and battery that I didn't need. I'm extremely happy so far. This phone is so gorgeous and smooth with an all day battery. Surprisingly good speakers and lightning fast with anything I throw at it. I'd recommend giving it a try to anyone on Verizon looking for a new phone.
