Trio Stealth Lite 4.3 - General info

I happened across a strange and fascinating device in a Wal-Mart recently: a Trio Stealth Lite 4.3 (specificity ;).). Two of my friends bought this device about a day ago, and a few google searches taught me how to put play store on it and in the process I find, like all the others, it comes pre-rooted. I couldn't ask for more.

I invite you all to help create a centralised thread for all sorts of info about this thing. It would help out the potentially growing user base and me specifically, seeing as how I'm these guys' tech support.

To get the ball rolling, here's some info and helpful articles I found and used.

Specs:
  • OS: Android 4.0
  • CPU: Boxchip A13 Cortex A8 1.2GHz Processor
  • RAM: 512MB DDR3
  • Files supported: Audio Support: MP3, WMA, OGG, APE, AAC, FLAC, WAV
  • Video Support: MPEG1/2/4, H.263/H.264, RMVB, RM, MOV, DAT, VOB, EMV/VC-1, MVC, AVS, MJPEG, AVI, ASF, TS
  • Picture Support: JPG, JPEG, GIF, BMP, PNG
  • Battery: 3.7V/1400mAh
  • Camera (Rear Facing)

Install Google Play:
That's all I've found. If anyone has more info, please share. And if any developers have one lying about and could spare some time, well, that'd be swell :). Depending on finances allowing, I might pick one up too. I'd be happy to donate it to a proper developer, of course.

Update: If you end up with a gs701b instead of an m4302, as I did, you might notice that this one does not come pre rooted (at least, mine didn't). This thread should certainly set you on the path to victory with this device: http://androidforums.com/general-ta...ase-gs701b-tablet-thats-driving-me-crazy.html

As I have learned, there are two different gs701b models: one with a home button, and the one without.

These are the specs for the gs701b:
  • Processor speed: 1200
  • RAM: 512Mb
  • Chip Type: Allwinner A13
  • Model: Allwinner A13 Q88
  • System: Android 4.0.3
  • Screen: 7'
  • resolution: 800 * 480
  • CPU: Allwinner A13 1.2GHz
  • GPU: Mali400
  • ROM: 4GB
  • WIFI: Wifi 802.11b/g/n
  • Dimensions: 182 * 121 * 10mm

Here are the other links I found infinitely useful:I flashed the firmware in the last link on my tablet (without the home button) and now I have no screen response. The computer makes dis/connect noises so I think it's still working, but nothing shows on the screen. Proceed only at your own risk.

So Wal*Mart is selling cheapo tablets that don't have Play or other Google services.

If nothing, Wal*Mart customers will probably learn a thing or two about hacking. :D Or more likely if they don't see those sites or feel they're up to hacking their tablets. I can see a high return rate here.

Bit of a liberty though calling a device with a 4.3 inch screen a "tablet" IMO. More like a phone, but without the phone bit. Like the Samsung Galaxy Player or the Apple iPod Touch.

We're talking about this one are we?
Mach Speed Trio Tablet - Walmart.com

It's a small tablet, a small pocket sized tablet. :D

It's only $49 bucks. It could be useful for something, like a bit of armchair browsing.

Don't know how Wal*Mart or the importer handles tech support, probably farmed out to India or they just don't bother. Got a problem, just return it to the store probably.

They make it clear that it's not running Windows, and it doesn't have a CD-ROM etc.

There's another one at $39 bucks...

This one shows Google apps and services on the screen shots. Which the above mentioned Trio apparently doesn't have.

Customer reviews are mixed though, either 5 stars excellent, or 1 star complaining about only lasting a few days. TBH that's what I would expect from things like this.

Yeah, it's definitely a "get what you pay for" thing. Even running things like nofrills and android assistant, the hardware will only go so far. So far I've worked on 2, and the second one just will not take google play, unlike the first one. I dunno man. That poor sod playing tech support is me, and I'm working with what I got, which isn't much. I'm not much of a developer.

Checked one of these out today & root is wide open. The kernel is unsecured. Anything that ask for root gets it so I bet Walmart will be refunding a bunch of them. It doesn't seem to be a bad device. It takes good pictures, pretty fast, WiFi has good range, & decent display. It does seem to run a bit warm. eats the battery fast if the display is turned up, & no Bluetooth. Also the box says 4GB internal which is wrong. You have 3GB internal but only 1GB is for the system & the rest is partitioned off for a little less then 2 GB Internal_SD. If it had Bluetooth I'd keep it but since it doesn't I'll return it. Thing is a camera that is on par with it cost just as much.

Anyhow back to the question Use the file browser to look on the SD.

TBH I bet many people buying these things wouldn't even know what "root" was, even if it come up and hit them in the face. They'll more than likely refunding a bunch of them anyway due to quality issues.

I have a very similar device, a Trio 4.3" Internet Tablet. it came rooted out of the box (didn't even need an SU binary either) and i managed to get Play Store and Google Apps to run perfectly fine on it. heck i just installed a boatload of stuff on it tonight. if you'd like help with that, i can offer mine.

Basically i used ES File Explorer and mounted /system and / as read/write. to do that you'd go somewhere to the left side of the app and select 'tools' (i had to stumble onto it, the new app has some sort of weird gesture) and select 'root explorer'. and it will present you with a list and you just tap the 'r/w' next to / and /system.

once that's done, download the APKs for Play Store and Play Services (Google it, often a link to XDA has those. don't get the Gapps.zip just ge the two seperate APK files)

you should then have both those APKs somewhere on the SD card. often it's /sdcard/download. tap and hold and a check box should appear next to them. tap both those checkboxes and hit 'copy'. then select / up top, tap the system folder, then the app subfolder, then tap 'paste' at the bottom. it should say 'all files successfully copied'. then exit the app and reboot the device.

after it finishes booting and connects to the internet (it will take time to have your wifi bars go from grey to blue this time). you should see an update notification from Play Store appear if any are available. hit the app drawer and find Play Store. tap it. after it launches, it might immediately crash to desktop or give a 'com.android.vending' error. open it again, this time it should load for a bit, then you get the options to add your Google account, agree to the terms, and then it shoul work fine. it might crash again when it does the update to the latest version with all the UI upgrades. After that, however, it should work fine.

well ive found a damn good use for this 40 dollar item lol

I have a pioneer sdh-da100 appradio. basically its in dash touchscreen tv for my truck that you connect to your smart phone ...with a bit of mods and cheap hardware you can have it mirror your phone. well I got tired of having to hook my phone to it every time i entered the car.
so now i hooked this thing to it and put in my glove box...and then connected it to my phones hotspot...now i can have this 4.3 screen turned into a 7" "tablet" with wifi etc etc...even hooked it up to torque app and it display all vital info about my truck ie:boost egc's, HP tw etc etc.
plus have pandora and any other android app(once i figure out how to get market place on this damn thing) with in arms reach without having to pull out my phone...
