Hey I recently bought a Samsung S4 from India, runnin Android 4.2.2, and i was frustrated with the half of internal storage space usable. So i found out that Android 4.3 was able to move apps to SD Card. So i tried an OTA update but it said that my device is already up to date. On Kies it says my firmware is not supported. However, i looked online and found this link: Force Android 4.3 OTA Download For Galaxy S4 And HTC One Google Play Edition Devices Right Now! | Redmond Pie

I followed the steps and i got an update. I installed it, however it was still on 4.2.2. The only changes were that there is a move to SD option of app info and the about device icon is yellow. I moved my games to SD card however there is no Android/Data on it. But in application manager there is section called SD card and my games are on it. Also i think that the SELinux in About device is not supposed to be permissive (I am not sure).

My questions are:
Why can't Kies support my firmware?
What did i actually do to my device?
How can i go back to the original OS?

I don't want to root my phone so please give answers which do not require root.

Thanks

Model Number: GT-I9500

The latest firmware for the GT-i9500, octa core, phone for India, CSC code ODD, non carrier branded, is i9500XWUBMG5, Android 4.2.2.

The Google Play Edition phone is a quad core phone, model number GT-i9505G and is currently the only Samsung Galaxy S4 version with Android 4.3. Obviously, this firmware for the Google Play Edition is totally incompatible with your GT-i9500. The Android 4.3 update is anticipated for this model in Q4.

Whilst it is possible to flash the Google Play Edition to the quad core, GT-i9505, fairly easily, (I have used it on my GT-i9505), and also there is a workaround, custom ROM for the octa core, GT-i9500, these require that you be rooted.

As for your storage problem, a Factory Reset can often sort this out after an update.

So how do i install the latest firmware in my Android device?

1. Connect your phone to the Samsung Kies, PC Suite, and it will tell you if there is an update available for your phone model, CSC code, location and carrier/non carrier branding. If Kies says that you have the latest firmware then that is it. Flashing anything else will void your warranty, etc: See ***.

2. Take it to the nearest Samsung Service Point and ask them if there is an update for your phone and could they install it under warranty.

3. Download the latest firmware for your phone model, CSC code, location and carrier/non carrier branding from SamMobile and flash it to your phone using a PC Suite called Odin. You will need to Google the various tutorials for doing this. This is not rooting.***

(*** This is for competent users and will void your warranty, if you have one, by flashing any firmware other than that intended for your original CSC code as well as preventing future updates through Kies or Over The Air, (OTA).)

Whenever I connect my phone to Kies, it says that my firmware is not supported to be updated via Kies. What do i do about that? Also, just out of curiosity, what did i exactly do when i followed the steps given in this link: Force Android 4.3 OTA Download For Galaxy S4 And HTC One Google Play Edition Devices Right Now! | Redmond Pie Why did doing this give me OTA updates?

I am guessing that by removing the updates and cache for Google Services Framework took you back to the factory default settings for it and the so-called update to MEA was in fact the Google Services Framework for that. Which, in reality, is 5 versions behind the current firmware release. In doing so, you appear to have prevented any further updates via Kies and probably the best thing you can do is to take it to a Samsung Service Point as I am uncertain whether even a Factory Reset of your phone will resolve your problem although it may be worth a try.
