I'm hoping that with the wider availability of smartphones the average customer is getting more tech savvy and with that the demand for unlocked bootloader rises.
Remember back in the early 90's Compaq computers used to solder their parts to the board, so there was little chance of doing a simple upgrade like more RAM? The public became more aware, and if they did that in a PC today, no one would buy.
On another forum someone trying to set up their android phone messaged me for how-to stuff and didn't want to get blasted, like noobs do on XDA. Turns out he was an iPhone user for years and finally made the switch to android because of the freedom to unlock and customize.
