I am considering a factory reset of my HTC One running 4.2.2. the phone has been rooted I am told but i would like to also do teh following.

Backup the phone data and settings

Backup my contacts.

I have copied my contacts to gmail but it just seems to have put them in with all my contacts. how do I restore the original contacts once a rest has been done as the only option seems to be "restore from gmail" with no option to pick and choose. I assume it will "restore" every contact in my gmail account...which I don't want

Help !

Also is there a catch all backup/restore app that will do everything I want ? helium or Titanium for instance ?

Many thanks :)

Cant seem to do have that option but I have downloaded a nice appthat does it. But...... I have 42 contacts on my phone but for some reason the app exports over 321 which is the number Ii have in my gmail account !! How frustrating. I just want a backup of my contacts but mobile phone companies seem to think this isn't important

Open contacts open the menu in the top right .. choose Manage Contacts .. choose Import/Export...
Choose Export to phone Storage

It will tell you where it put them

It does indeed but it wants to show me all my gmail comtacts even though I only have that 42 on my phone. I assume its picked the gmail ones up from somewhere but they don't show in my storage or SIM. On the old Nokias you could just copy sim to storage at a press of a button...and the reverse

I know its probably me being dense

Did you store the new ones as Google or Phone contacts. Google ones are synced with your gmail (so will be added to those). Phone ones are not synced. You can export these separately.

Re. number of contacts, check your people app's settings. Is it set to only show contacts with phone numbers? If so you would not see most gmail contacts, but they would still be stored.

The best backup app is Titanium, but that's no use if you plan to unroot (which as I said in the other thread needs more than a factory data reset). Helium is a backup app that works without root, so you could do a general backup with that and restore later.
