Hey guys.

A bit of a quick introduction. My name's Alex and I'm from Australia. I got my droid (well milestone) a couple of weeks ago and have loved the whole android platform. I love messing around with the OS and the boot animations, and the customisability absolutely pis**s all over the iPhone.

Yesterday, while on year 10 camp my douchebag of a friend hurled a tiny rock at me and ended up hitting my screen.

Upon inspection, it seems that the damage is limited to the glass on top of the screen. You can't really feel the crack, and the touch and display elements still work fine, even on the crack.

It's only one crack, from the left edge, about an inch down, to the earpiece, right over the O in motorola.

So heres where I need your help.

Could anyone clarify what part/s are broken, and if i can fix this myself.
I'm no expert in this area, and have no idea how these screens are made/assembled, and an explanation as to how many parts there are and what is connected to which would be great.

Being in Australia, where the phone isn't even sold, Its going to be hard to get a replacement, and if I could just buy the glass piece of eBay, unscrew the back and replace it, I'd be happy.

Otherwise, I purchased the phone on eBay from a guy who bought it from clove, a UK online store selling phones, maybe I can ask about warranty, though I doubt it covers douchebags throwing rocks at screens.

Any help that anyone can give me would be great, and I'd really appreciate the help. I'm in a really bad situation like this, unwilling to take the phone outside so as no to exacerbate the problem.

Once again thanks guys, I know how much it must suck to deal with this nooby crap.

Yea, the warranty won't cover broken screens. I've not seen droid parts for sale on the internet yet either. You might have to live with it for a while. Stick a screen protector on it to hold things in place in case the crack starts to spread. Usually you can replace the top glass on touch screen devices, I've do a few iPhone screens this way.

Maybe use one of those windshield repair kits to see if it'll fill in the crack, especially if it's just the top glass. Just a thought.

I wouldn't try that. Windshields are laminated, usually the rock chip doesn't break the plastic film between the two pieces of glass. There's no film on our screens. The chip repair kit will force epoxy under the top piece of glass, which will ruin the display.

I'd trust a hooker standing on some corner in Philly more than Craigslist.

to bad for you.. I made $400 this week selling stuff there.

had my floors put in by guys I found there - did it in half the time and half the cost and did an AWESOME job.

sold a 15k car via CL.

had a custom iron gate built for a fraction of the price then an "official" retail place.

got my windows tinted by a guy charging a fraction of the price, great warranty, awesome job.

I bet I have sold over 4k of stuff via CL easy + what I have saved, as I buy a lot and find services.

it's not about CL, it is about you checking out how legit the people are on CL.
