Droid Maxx Tips

Android Device Manager has a handy method for ringing your phone or requesting a Factory Data Reset. My Maxx is not listed. How do I make it "registered"? If I list devices it shows an XT1080 with the option to display it in menus checked.

... Thom

Thom, mine shows up (listed as XT1080). My old device was a Droid 3; if I click that in ADM, it lists the Maxx.

You may need to update Google Play Services. Check the play store for updates (if you haven't already) and hopefully the new play services installs. If you see Android Device Manager in the Google Settings app, I'd think you'd be all set.

I noticed that Motorola also has a lost device service. After you activate it on the phone, you can go to https://motorola-global-portal.custhelp.com/app/home and sign in in the upper right and follow the prompts to add your device.

In settings, Security and screen lock, Device administrators, check all three.
Go to https://www.google.com/android/devicemanager?u=0 on your computer and select XT1080 at top. It should locate your phone on the map. If you select ring it will ring your phone. Swipe up to stop.:D Loud sucker! It may take a while to locate your phone on the map depending on strength of the GPS signal.Very accurate.

:eek:Just watched the Droid commercial where the dummy leaves his Droid in the back of a cab and chases it down to a group of cabs and says "OK Google Now, call my droid" and the phone rings leasing him to the cab it is in. Kind of silly but of course I had to say "OK Google Now, call my Droid" while it was sitting on my desk asleep. It started ringing. Swipe up to cancel.

The lost device service is what I am trying to establish. It lists my deactivated Bionic and Deactivated Droid X but not the Maxx.

I saw a table that listed all three (Maxx was XT180?) and they all had "show in menu" selected. Only two of them showed in the menu.

Maxx is XT1080. Did you register it? Here is the page to activate the lost device.

I am wondering if anybody is using nova launcher with custom icons? Reason I ask is because no matter what icon pack I choose, the stock messaging app is not displaying correctly. Anyone else?

Nova is working beautifully for me. Although, I'm not using any of the custom icons. One thing I have found, is that when from off, you hold down the power button and volume down, you get some sort of boot option screen. I haven't messed with the boot options because I don't want to mess up my nice setup, until we get root.

i found that under accessibility settings, you can set to have double tapping the home button open one of a few system apps. mine opens gmail. also, there's another setting to make long holding the multitask button open the overflow menu - which gets rid of the dark bar at the bottom on apps that don't have the overflow menu built in correctly.

Thanks for this but I can't figure out the second one for the overflow menu.
Figured it out. It's under display section of settings.

If your Droid Maxx is registered with Google you can use ... Android Device Manager ... to locate it.

ADM can send a signal to your phone and it will ring for up to five minutes or to when the power button is pressed.

If GPS is enabled on your phone the ADM webpage will show you where the phone is located.

If you have it pre enabled you can have ADM request your phone perform a Factory Data Reset. To pre-enable the Droid Maxx go to Settings | Security & Screen Lock | Device Administration and make sure Android Device Manager is checked.

(During this first week of November 2013 an update to Play Services disabled "Android device manager" from Device Administrators, even if you had already manually set it. If you are depending on this service, please go Settings | Security & Screen Lock | Device Administration and make sure Android Device Manager is checked.)

(I have not yet tried requesting a Factory Data Reset of my Droid Maxx.)

Did you notice that if you go to Settings | Developer options it is by default On? Why?

One of the review suggested changing ...
- Transition animation scale to Animation scale .5x
- Animator duration scale to Animation scale .5x
... to make it snappier.

I did and don't notice the difference.

i changed it to 0 and noticed a big difference, especially when pressing the multitask button, it opens quicker
