Nexus 5 Pre-Release/Speculation Thread

Nexus 5 is coming soon, and we've had plenty of leaks.
Some of the more recent updates include:

We appear to have 2 colors:

Specs that we know thus far:

• 2.3 GHz Snapdragon 800 quad core Krait 400.
• Adreno 330 graphics based on processor selected
• 4.96" 1080P display
• RAM 2GB
• 16GB /32GB
• 8 MP OIS rear cam / 1.2 MP front cam.
• 2300 mAh battery
• 4.4 Android OS (KitKat)
• Wireless Capability:
  • GSM/GPRS/EDGE: 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900
  • UMTS/HSPA: 850 / 1700/2100 / 1900
  • CDMA 2000: 800 / 1900 (D820)
  • LTE: There appears to be two models here with each one having different compatibilities.
    D820: 2/4/5/17/25/26/41
    D821: 1/3/5/7/8/20
    

So in summary, it appears that it will be compatible on AT&T (17,4), T-Mobile(4), and Sprint(25, 26, 41) LTE. It doesn't appear to be compatible with Verizon, which uses band 13.

So jump in. Nothing is too big or small. All ideas, thoughts, general conversation, whatever about the Nexus 5 shall begin!!

I have a feeling many Verizon and Sprint customers are going to be disappointed. But it would be nice to get both band 4 & band 17 LTE.

And hopefully no supply issues like the Nexus 4 had.

I'm already set up for disappointment.

Nexus 4, no CDMA version. Google Editions of the S4 and One, no CDMA. Heck, I'm not even sure the Moto X DE is confirmed in CDMA. So my hopes are not high.

Does seem like LG has the contract though, but rumors are lower spec'd G2 for price.

Pretty sure I'll wait for the announcement just to make sure I'm fully disappointed in a lower speed offering that won't work on Verizon. Then I'll have some choices to make.

Will LG G2 have dev support?
Stay with Verizon or jump ship?

I do love me a good KitKat though.

Now, if the Nexus 5 was simply a G2 without skin, unlocked, full band compliant phone available to use on any carrier, that would be awesome.

And while I'm dreaming, why not make it $99 off contract.

There is a Verizon Dev version of the Moto X in the works, one for Sprint isn't necessary because they'll let you unlock the Sprint version.

As for the Nexus 5, Verizon screwed up real bad and their customers who want one are the ones to pay the penalty. Sprint hasn't been as bad, but still isn't the greatest at updating their Nexus devices. The Sprint Gnex is still on 4.2.1 officially and their Nexus S is on 4.1.1 (unlocked is frozen on 4.1.2). As for who makes it, LG does seem to be the favorite, but a closer look at that whoopsie from the statue video makes it look similar to the Sony Xperia Z1 regarding camera size, placement, and layout with the flash.

As mentioned, phones and the capability to make calls on the network is a standing issue. Still, worth a read.

It's still nice to see Google test those block c regulations that Verizon hates oh so much with the new Nexus 7. Though I've got suspicions that the reason it isn't released in the US is because Verizon is trying to fight these regulations. It's available in a couple of markets in Europe, though not through Google Play.

Plausible theory indeed. If vzw wanted to kick start their new Edge program however, it could be a good move to offer a device that's more affordable...and would be in demand by many of the more savvy folks who have latched onto their unlimited data. Something like the Nexus 5.

The only issue I see with that is the the CDMA Gnex was 600+ full retail even after the GSM version came to Google Play at $350. Now if Google were to make the Nexus 5 VoLTE capable with band 13 LTE support & no CDMA radio, it could hypothetically sneak it onto Verizon's network once Verizon starts up that it themselves. Though I don't see that happening until mid or end of 2014.

True but I'm not sure many people would go down that road again. So in the unlikely event that it came to vzw, I think the rules would have to change. Does that make it even LESS likely to happen? Maybe.

Bottom line, there's always the G2. It should land on VZW/Sprint as LG's flagship.

I'm currently on Sprint and I'm getting the next Nexus. How? I'm moving to T-Mobile.

it could have been due to the perspective of the camera, but I agree that it is odd.

If they pack all of this into the 350 zone like they've done with the two previous generations, then that's awesome.
