Here's a thought:

Its the same phone having support for both GSM and CDMA.

I'm hoping I can buy the "universal" nexus sold through Google play without a contract for sprint.

Next summer I still have an upgrade, or can choose to take that phone to ATT, T-Mobile, or any of the 3s prepaid carriers if network vision isn't up to par

But wait...
That would also mean upgrades directly from Google. A true nexus experience (something Sprint and Verizon's were lacking previously)

Those sprint bands give me concern. When have we ever seen the US cdma carriers give up control? To me, this makes me nervous about receiving timely updates because of it is universally one device, it might mean sprint will have to go through its testing crap instead of just letting v
Google handle it.

Could help explain no Verizon support. They wouldn't give it up.

Or Verizon opted out, or Google didn't want them to have it, or it'll be supported once Verizon launches their (band 4?) LTE later this year/early next year.

Anyone's guess just my speculation/hope

If sprint willingly gave up control, then I applaud then.

While I'm happy that Sprint may get the next Nexus, I just feel more confidant getting the gsm version with T-Mobile.

I have an S4 and luckily got it early so it's rooted and loki still works so I can run AOKP.

However, I'm still missing that pure Nexus feel.

So, it's quite simple for me. I'll be ditching Verizon and moving to AT&T who has great LTE coverage at my house (better than Verizon!) and at work (again, way better than Verizon).

Unfortunately my wife's phone is in contract until Jan 2014.

Does anyone know if you can leave only ONE line on a grandfathered Verizon 700 minute family share plan with unlimited text/data? If so, I may go early and then when her contract expires change my AT&T account to a family share plan and get her a subsidized iPhone 6.

Before, we saw GSM phone and a CMDA phone go through the FCC right? Now its 1 phone supporting all bands

Unfortunately I know virtually nothing about the fine print of Verizon's plans . You may target a more focused audience by asking that in the Verizon carrier forum here:

If they could maintain one phone even with the CDMA radio, that would be a major improvement as far as consumers go.

I know when I ported my numbers out from Verizon to Google Voice and still have one line on the plan, I was still stuck on my family plan. So based on that, I think you might get what you want.

Great! I'm so fed up with Verizon and their draconian policies. I know AT&T still locks down devices, but at least I can rely on a Nexus device being available once a year or failing that a GE device!

Yeah if by the end of the year I don't see the nexus 5 come to vzw, or if I don't see any high spec'd phones on the horizon, I'm either going to wait for the galaxy S5 or jump to a different carrier. I don't understand why they don't go for the high end phones.

Been looking pretty hard at this phone. Cant find much on it.

Currently on an iPhone 4 with 2 years left on my contract until I can upgrade; so I've been looking for an inexpensive Droid phone to dip my feet into. Was going to get the Nexus 4 until I caught wind of the Nexus 5 on the near horizon. Definitely not in a rush to get rid of my iPhone 4, but I'm hoping the Nexus 5 becomes something of a monster, as I'd love to get a mobile device with good flash support (yeah, not native, but so easy to put on that it sortof is) that can suffice all my anime-watching needs, while lasting all day, with absolutely all my social networks and emails on push, while having the guts to game fairly well... That'd be a dream; no... Ahem; let's not forget the ever important 1080p panel, LTE, and stock Android...

I don't really know anything about the Nexus 5; just hopping on to see if I can pick any info up as it comes up... Would love to make the switch to a Droid and "happily never look back", as they say.

True but I'm not sure many people would go down that road again. So in the unlikely event that it came to vzw, I think the rules would have to change. Does that make it even LESS likely to happen? Maybe.

Bottom line, there's always the G2. It should land on VZW/Sprint as LG's flagship.

If only Tmobile would upgrade all of their 2g and 3g hspa to hspa+ and or lte I think I'd be happy enough to move onto their plans with only 5GB of data for $30 a month, but 2g and 3g data are just unusable.

I'm pretty pumped to read about that Snapdragon 800. The charging is so fast on my Xperia Z Ultra and I've read that it's because of the 800. Plus I miss wireless charging.

I hope they release it earlier this year than last year. I want an Umpa Lumpa now!!

I think that was a lot of people's plan for the nexus 4, but then google dropped the new price by $100 and tanked the resale market (at least temporarily).

Agreed. If I go that route it will be by way of transfering an upgrade to a dumb phone and re-upping the contract.

So was looking at the motox and noticed it had the "contextual awareness" feature set. Has there been any speculation if that will appear on the nexus 5? It looks like some of the features require a AMOLED screen but some of them do not.

Here is the wikipedia article on the motox, note it has a dedicated natural language processor and a dedicated contextual awareness processor.

All of these features aren't in native AOSP, so unless they're added to 4.4(which I doubt they will), I wouldn't expect to find them in the Nexus 5. But if they are added to 4.4, then any Nexus device that gets the update to it will get it hypothetically as well assuming the necessary hardware is there.

Excellent point. Quick googling doesn't show anything like that in the feature set for 4.4. Tx!
