Galaxy Note 3: Pentile screen unconfirmed

The screen of the Galaxy Note 3 might to be of the pentile kind. While the PPI is high the information is unconfirmed. If true I think Samsung has missed a great opportunity to make a truly great screen. Personally, I do not stand the pentile structure and will pass if it is. I don't get why people are making such a big deal about pentile vs. non-pentile with such high ppi's. Does it really make any difference? Do you guys walk around with a magnifying glass taped to your phones?

I had a pentile screen with the Photon and noticed it, but from everything that's been described, it seems like Samsung's diamond formation doesn't show the pixelation as much (if at all).

Not a deal breaker for me, but I know many would be interested in seeing this confirmed.

Even though the "experts" say that the HTC One has a better display than the S4 because of it having a non pen tile screen, I still prefer the vibrant S4's screen.
Call me crazy but once you get used to Amoled everything else appears lackluster and washed out.

Having had a pentile screen on the photon, I know how it can annoy some folks. It never really bothered me because the being able to see the screen in full sunlight was great. That said, based on the layout of the Pentile arrangement being different than standard, I'll have to see in person if it's not as apparent.

If it is pentile, it will still be a non issue for me. I think that the screen on my note 2 looks great, but it could stand to be a little brighter. One of the hands on articles from the announcement mentioned that that the note 3 screen looked much brighter than the n2, so that takes care of that. At 386 (I believe) ppi, the screen will look awesome.

I will be highly disappointed if the Note 3 turns out to be the same way.

It is rgb, but not in the standard arrangement...the blue pixel was much larger than the red and green. Either way, I've heard nothing but praise from those that have seen the n3's screen,. It is supposedly much brighter than the n2 which would be great

That's what I thought. If it was pentile and I didn't see, then I definitely wouldn't notice the pentile on the note 3.

FYI-that's gonna be my temp phone until Note 3 is released. Already looking at a few on ebay.

Yeah it's much harder to see in direct sunlight with the Note 2, but I have managed to cope and adjust.

Aside from the plastic make, one of the biggest reasons why I have sold every Samsung device (Note 1, S3 and S4) I ever had was the over the top color saturation of the screen. Very unnatural. Up to the posting of this reply, HTC One still is the best phone I ever had in terms of screen display (and build quality of course). I own an Xperia Z Ultra and I am also loving the screen.

I have pre-ordered a Note 3 and I hope it won't end up on my ebay page.

Thanks for the info and link. I'm not really learned in the way of screens other than what I read on this thread. I know there's some difference in opinions about this technology, but I'm sure I'll be happy regardless.

I do have one question though for those who are in the know. Will this screen be okay for direct sun situations? Or just sunlight for that matter? That is one thing I'm not a fan of about my current N2. Thanks!

I just got done searching for some tidbits on the S4 page. I get the feeling the general consensus is the screen isn't performing so well in direct sunlight. :-(

Looks like higher PPI and HD resolution makes pentile screen less significant than in years past. As long as I can't see the pixels from regular distance or at the brightest setting, what I'm seeing looks fine to me.

I'm sure there are and some people's eyes are actually hyper sensitive to it...but just by comparing the pictures in that article to older pictures of pentile screens...night and day difference.

I can easily tell the difference and to be honest, I wish I couldn't. It's just there lol.... I loved the GS4 screen (actually a beautiful screen) until I used it for a few days and was bothered by the pentile. It was very subtle, but definitely noticeable. I sold it shortly thereafter. It's not a deal breaker by any means but I would have preferred non-pentile or lcd. Pentile significantly reduces the impact of the stated PPI... That being said, I will be the first one in the line at Sprint (when they finally release...uuggghhh) for the Note 3, pentile or no pentile...lol.....
