I charged my phone up and left overnight with wifi on. I have disabled alot of apps and samsung stuff. I have power saving mode on.

So I lost 3% over night thats without airplane mode on. Once the phone starts getting use like going through phone settings and surfing the internet via wifi my phone gets warm and the battery drains fast. My battery life was 86 when I woke up 2 hours ago its now 48. Thats poor.

Should I try to get a new battery?

This could be one of three things depending on when you got your phone. If you've just bought it, knowing your carrier and software version helps.
Software conflicts from a system update
- Software conflicts from a system update, although this one usually doesn't let your phone lose just 3% overnight.
- Bad battery. Again, odd that you would be able to survive the night without power loss (unless the phone lied, lol).
- Google services have a hiccup causing a power drain and was only able to do it when you turned data back on.

Have you checked your battery page to see if anything looks out of place? Usually if something is draining more battery than your screen, something's wrong with that app.

Google and my screen are taking the most battery. Not alot seems to be happening. I already tried a factory reset. What data do you mean? Chrome 24% and screen 54%.

If I leave ny phone alone the battery seems fine. Its just when I start browsing the internet and viewing settings.

My battery gets warm quickly. My temps go from 22c to 35c quickly.

Ignore my data comment. I was half delirious from lack of sleep getting GTAV. For some reason I thought you said something about Airplane mode, lol.

Are you browsing a lot of sites in full desktop mode? Or ones heavy in coding? Is the Wi-Fi signal in the house strong enough so that downloads are effortless?

Does your battery drain faster if you just tap the screen to keep the phone awake without actually doing anything else?

you can try draining your battery... leave it for 2mins then start charging.. open the phone after 10 minutes.. after the full charge. leave or don't use your phone for about 15minutes.. try if you see any changes. .. when i got my s4, it lasted 2days ..of seldom use. after a week of starting using it.. it seldom reach 2days or more. mostly 1 day close to 2d .. worst is less than 24 hours (calls/wifi/sms/frequent opening of phone)

Spot on in my opinion. If the phone is getting hot while using, it is working hard. That's either because you're running intensive graphics, cpu load, or high bandwidth usage.

Set your screen to auto, make sure all options are checked in the power saving mode menu, make sure you're getting a good signal (both WiFi and cell).

If you're surfing a bunch, or keeping your sceen on a lot, you're going to burn through battery. I can easily burn 40% of my battery in 6hrs if I use it a lot/ for intensive surfing, gaming, DLing, etc.

If I occasionally look up directions, send a text, look something up on the interwebz quick, or make a call, My battery lasts ALL day plus some. But I'm always in a great signal area and usually have wifi coverage that rocks too.

This is not the best I've gotten, but is pretty close to usual for me:

So why do I reasld about people on theirs surfing. Not gaming some vids. And their last a day where as mine is draining in half a day.

So many possible reasons that it can not be answered for sure over a forum.

Signal strength, screen brightness settings, volume level, wifi vs 3g vs 4g being used, specific software and/or apps being used in the foreground AND what is running in the background, firmware version, hardware variations including but not limited to battery health, third party "battery saving" apps, etc. etc. etc.

Really, unless you see something specific showing up in a battery monitoring report (try Gsam Battery monitor, or System Tuner to find specific apps or processes running and potentially draining battery), you need to try tweaks of screen time, brighness, etc. on your own to find what works for you. By all means, if you have specific questions, keep asking them, and good luck!

Don't forget, you can always buy an extended battery!

Or another one.

While I appreciate all the power-saving tips about making one's battery last longer, I like to use my phone to its fullest potential without restrictions. (Don't get me wrong, I'm not a power user or anything. But why the hell did I get a phone with all these bells and whistles if the first thing I've got to do is turn off 90% of the bells and whistles to preserve battery life?) Solution: Bought a backup battery. (The OEM battery/charger combo was perfectly priced to take advantage of that coupon Samsung gives you for registering the phone.)

But I would much rather take the opportunity to swap a battery out than to change all my settings to preserve precious juice.
