Help Transferring files between the Incredible and a Mac

Does anyone know how the process of transferring music, photos, and video to and from the Incredible for an Apple user works? The Incredible will be my first smartphone. I currently have an Env, but transferring photos and videos I captured with it to my computer is a chore since the included software is Windows only.

A few more questions. Does the Incredible play AAC files, and how would documents be transferred back and forth via an app like Documents to Go?

I'm not 100% certain, but I believe the following to be true:

1. The SD card will be formatted either FAT16 or FAT32, which your MAC should be able to read/write without issue.

2. It will play any AAC, WMV, or MP3 file, except protected ones (I don't think it will play protected files of any type).

First, when you're talking Mac, don't worry about the goofy Windows software that comes with things. They only give you that stuff because Windows can't handle it otherwise. I transfer files all of the time from my current phone (LG Dare) to my Mac. Either you can use the built-in Bluetooth functionality in the menu bar ('send file' or 'browse device') or you can pop the SD card out into a reader and plug it in. I think if you plug in the whole phone it (the phone) won't let you access its data. Maybe that's just because the Dare is so VZlocked.

Is there any way to get my iCal on my mac to sync up with my Google calendar? I can only get the info from google cal to sync onto my iCal.

Based on my experience with smartphones on my mac, here's my best guess:
When you plug the phone in, you will either have one or two external drives show up (1=card & 1=phone).
I am confident that the microSD card will show up and all you have to do is drag and drop. If for some reason it doesn't, you should be able to pick up a $5 USB adapter for the card and drag & drop without the phone.
Here's where I'm not sure what to expect . . . the phone may or may not show up as a separate drive. I'd say however, worse case, you could use Andexplorer or Astro app to cut/copy files from the phone's memory to the card and vice-versa.

hey, i'm not sure if this is what you are looking for, but if you are in ical, go to preferences and click on the accounts tab. click the + (add) account button, leave the account type as automatic and put in your gmail username/password. once ical finds your account you can name it, set it to refresh whenever, etc. i did this and any changes i make in ical get published to my gmail account, and vice versa

I can verify that your PC does NOT recognize Incredibles internal memory.

Also, most, if not all of the files i d/led onto my old SD card through verizon do not play on the Incredible.

What can't you do on Windows without the software that you can do on Mac?

I used DoubleTwist with the moto droid and it seemed to work for music atleast. i like syncing all of my itunes music since i had an ipod and it will sync your playlists too.

i just remember it being a little confusing to use the first couple times....

for pictures you might be able to connect the phone via usb and then open up the Image Capture program that comes with Mac OS and browse the pictures on your phone to drag and drop onto your computer.... haven't tested this tho...

Assuming I followed the directions on the google website properly, my iCal is still not showing up on my google cal.....

1. My Incredible, with SD card, shows up as two separate external drives on my Mac: one drive for the card and one for the phone. I can create folders, drag and drop, etc, any type of file I want onto these "drives."

2. I use Salling Media Sync and it syncs my iTunes playlists, podcasts, videos, etc with my Incredible. It just has to be plugged into the computer. When I had my Droid, I found this software to be more reliable than DoubleTwist.

3. I have 5 calendars in my iCal that sync with 5 identically named calendars in my Google account. I use (and pay for) Spanning Sync to sync my calendars AND my contacts. I know that I have the options in my iCal and Address Book, but I feel like I have more granular control by using Spanning Sync. In fact, if I add or edit an event in iCal, it almost instantly shows up in my Google calendar, which also means it shows up pretty quickly on my phone. I don't have to do anything or even think about it.

When I plug my Incredible into my Mac with USB, I get a choice of USB connection types on the Incredible (selected in Setup options):

- Charge only (default)
- HTC Sync
- Disk Drive
- Mobile Broadband Connect

If you select 'Disk drive', you will see two new drives in Finder: select one, and one of the directories will be 'DCIM'. DCIM will contain the pictures supplied as samples by HTC plus subdirectories of other files you have taken. Just open iPhoto or Aperture and import the photos in these directories and you'll be fine.

As far as calendar entries, if you go to Google help or tools and find Google Sync, you should be able to select the iCal calendars you want to sync with and do so.

Whenever I do this it says "No open directory servers configured" help please!

hi all - new member here so pls excuse enthusiasm. i have had my DInc since may of 2010 and never was able to xfer video files to my iphoto... today i had time to attend to this (after a few low memory warnings) and was afraid of losing my content altogether (irrational probably, but there it is).

here are the steps:

on your droid:
from settings, go to "connect to PC"
choose to safely unmount SD card (because the files aren't on your hard drive)
remove SD card, install in micro SD reader
mount micro SD reader to mac

on your mac:
launch "finder"
look for DROID (or whatever filename you've given your SD) in upper left column dedicated to data sources
look for "DCIM" in DROID / finder's directory
open DCIM
open "100 Media" (that's how it's stored on my DInc anyway)

voila! all your videos should populate the list.

highlight them all (or the ones you wish to transfer)
drag them to iPhoto

all done!

hope this helps. because of the low memory warning, i ordered the DInc2 last night... now i'm thinking i won't be needing that... got a killer deal though - the phone and a case for $73.
