New INCREDIBLE User - RadioRich

Hi Forum Folks,
I am a new HTC Incredible user.
I ordered my Incredible on Monday, via phone.
The woman who helped me said: "It will ship out tonight"
I said: "But I thought it would not ship until 4/29"
She said: "My computer says it will ship tonight"

It did ship out from CA on Mon-PM. I got my FedEx tracking #.
It arrived at the Framingham MA FedEx pickup site on Wed-AM.

By 11-AM, I had my Incredible provisioned by the Framinham MA VZW store.
(Chris was a great help, since it was the first he had seen, and said training was scheduled for next week)

I have been using it now for 3 days. If anyone has questions, fire away.
Summary: It is FAST, the display is BEAUTIFUL, and the ergonomics are EXCELLENT. I got the $199 deal since my 2-yr contract was renewing.

Mine did NOT come with a Micro-SD card, but has lots of internal memory, even after I downloaded 6 apps, including Google Maps

Just had my Incredible since Wed-AM.

It discovered my in-car Garmin-Nuvi w/o problems.
All my calling via BT so far has been initiated using the Garmin screen.

I'll give the phone-screen 'CALL' button a try next time I'm in my car
I did find that leaving the BlueTooth transceiver ON when I'm at work reduces battery life. So, now I keep the WiFi and BT transceivers OFF when I'm in good 3G coverage.

BTW: Is there a way to turn OFF the 3G modem & only operate it as an MP3 player, or just use WiFi for Internet browsing?

Did I mention that the Incredible is Incredible? FAST & SUPER DISPLAY !!
No problems for me, yet

No, Android itself doesn't support BT dialing for whatever reason. Google seriously needs to change that ASAP.

are you sure that android doesnt support bluetooth dialing?

does this mean you cant pair it with your car, and make calls, handsfree, like you can with so many other phones?

this would be a deal killer for me..

thanks for the info!

Well, the only thing I know with certainty is that you cannot initiate a call using a paired bluetooth headset, you actually have to dial from the phone. Radiorich says he was able to initiate calls using his paired Garmin Nuvi; I'm not sure if you can do the same with other devices (ie, car.)

It's crazy that such a basic (and important) feature isn't fleshed out by now.

Anyone else care to chime in?

How is the phone dialing?
any hesitation?
my eris lags soooo bad i could cry at times.
if i was getting murdered and needed to call the cops in 30 seconds, i would have to first wait 23 seconds for my dialer to recognize it needs to display numbers:D

Same here. At least the police would be able to hear me being murdered because even if the perp hit end, it takes about 10 secs for the phone to actually disconnect the call.

Phone Dialing is just as fast as my home landline.
There is no hesitation when dialing the number using the on-screen keypad.
Each keystroke is greeted with an immediate 'vibe' which gives tactile feedback that you hit the right key.

As you key in your number or name, 2 boxes start updating...
One contains the number you're dialing (ex: 508..., and another starts to narrow down name choices. I have 167 entries in my directory. After about 3 or 4 numbers input, I have a very short list of possible names.

It's really cool.
When I want to call LISA CELL, I just start dialing:
By the time I see '547' in the number display, I'm down to 2 lines in the name display: 'Lisa Cell' and 'Zebra Karen HR' which both include the letters in order of '547'. Of course, I could continue to put in 10 digits and dial a number direct. So cool!

Another cool thing I learned:
There are 7 DIRECT home pages, as you've probably read about (each can show 4x5=20 Icons of Widgets/Apps/Shortcuts/Folders. But wait, there's MORE!

From the HOME screen, hit MENU button.
Under there, you can create SCENES, which give you UNLIMITED pages for apps. Right now, I'm still filling my 7 home screens by category:
1. HOME; Time/Weather (local config), YouTube, Camera, People, Messages, Internet, Calendar, Music, Flashlight
2. COMMS/NAV: Bluetooth, WiFi, FM-Radio, GPS-Status (so cool!), Compass, Maps, Geodelic, WeatherBug
3.SUPPORT: Market, Battery-Life, Battery-Users, etc
4. FINANCIALS: Bank of Amer, Stocks, more to add

I have a long way to go to fill these 7 screens with 7x20 apps!
Next Step. Start to download MP3s & Videos onto a new Micro-SD.

Dialing from my Garmin-Nuvi-360 works fine. (I keep the INCR in my pocket)

Share your ideas!

how is the screen sensitivity on the incredible? I have a moto droid and an ipod touch 2nd gen and one of the only complaints that I have is that I wish that the sensitivity on the droid was more like the ipod touch. I have learned to get used to it though. I just read the incredible was supposed to have a better touch screen, and was wondering how it compared to moto droid/ipod/iphone. Thanks

Droid DOES!!!

I have downloaded a passel of apps in the past few days. NO PROBLEMS, except that I ignored the warning on the MOTO-DROID-FLASHLIGHT app which said it only worked on Moto-Droid. Well, it didn't work on the HTC-INCR, so I downloaded another cool app which uses the main screen, adjustable from 0% to 100%. Works well in the dark! I will be looking for another Flashlight App which uses the 2 bright LEDs next to the camera lens.

I'm really glad I held off purchasing a new Digi-Cam. I used this one last night at my daughter's University Chorale concert. It too GREAT pix & vids with and without the flash. The flash has 3 settings: Auto, Yes, and No. ! The size of the screen as a view finder is SO much better than other digi-cams I've used.

The SCREEN SENSITIVITY is superb. I've used iPhones by my workmates, and all I can say is that it's either as good or better. The surface is very smooth, and the pinch gesturing for zoom-in/zoom-out is perfect. The flick gesturing works exactly as you would expect, with slowdown to zero, after let-go.

One weird thing that takes 30 seconds to get used to:
If I flick the screen to the right, it goes to the next screen on the right
If I flick the opto-mouse to the right, it goes to the next screen on the left.
No biggie, in that they have a nice little 'line' which runs left/right on the top of the PHONE dome on the bottom to indicate which of the 7 home screens you'r looking at. And if you hit MENU twice, it shows ALL 7 home screens in miniature so you can just hit any for instant-zoom to that screen.

lgldrgdlr,

Thanks for that pinch-tip. I guess I should read the manual!

One recommended App:
Advanced Task Killer - It enables stopping any running apps from a checklist.
Saves battery power.

I also found that running WiFi and BT and 3G all day was a battery drain. Now, I enable them when I need them. Airplane mode turns off all 3 transceivers (3G, WiFi, BT). I'm not sure about the other 2 receivers: FM-Radio & GPS.

I think the 'GPS-Status' app is my favorite, AFTER 'Google Sky Map'.
The other night, I held it up to the partial moon, and saw an object on the eclipses. It correctly identified it in the same position as 'Mercury'
