Ok guys, time to help the mods. Instead of sending 100 reports of the same post, lets combine, and only send one. Here's how it's going to work:

User "A" makes an objectionable post.

User "B" Finds said post objectionable.

User "B" Also quotes objectionable post, and states he has reported the post to moderation.

Users "C, D, and E" also find user "A"'s post objectionable. Instead of sending in duplicate reports, bogging up the system, they simply thank the post that user "B" quoted and stated he was reporting to mods.

Moderator action:

Moderator/Admin reviews objectionable post, and makes their decision, whatever it is. They remove the post user "A" posted saying he objected and reported that post.

That will reset the respective post counts, thanks, and resume flow of conversation. Also, it will show the users the post has been reviewed.

Win/win for everybody.

EDIT:

Also, the person making the objectionable post will also see people are objecting, and may feel peer pressure to back off. Another possible win.

You mean user B... ;)

This might serve more purpose and use in the suggestion forum! :D

User B should not quote user A's objectionable post. All this will do is create another instance where a post needs to be deleted. A more sensible thing to do would be to call out user A and state that you have reported their post.
For example:
@User A
I have reported your post post to moderation.
Other wise great idea! I'll move this to the Suggestion Box & Feedback forum for you.

Nice thinking! But, I'm with Caddy. Multiple reports on a post add as "replies" to the report and show a priority, at times.

Also, while it reads nice (and it does), getting everyone to follow that model simply won't happen. We get 800 new people a day..

Meh maybe its too idealistic, but i'm gonna give it a shot if you don't mind. I can always drop it later.

We had a dabble with similar on Briskoda, and it ended VERY badly.

It merely raised grudges, off forum hate attacks (FB/Twitter/blogs/IM) etc etc with the same complainers about the same people. Made our moderation so much harder, and simply lead to "Moderators are x" posts springing up left right and centre. I'll leave what X was to your imagination.

Not sure what VB add ons you have, but before we jumped to ip boards we had a load of useful tools for requiring approval for posts for problematic users until they behaved again. IP forums has made this much easier for us to mod the forum, but the user interface sucks hairy ones.
