Backup Assistant

I am trying to backup my current contact on my dumbphone, but I'm having trouble doing it.

I can't get backup assistant by going to "get it now" on my phone and when I try to send backup assistant to my phone on verizon's website, it will only let me send it to the primary account number (i'm on a family plan) and not my number.

Can anyone advise me on what to do?

worked fine on my wifes, secondary, line.

Log in under your own account to do it. If that does not work, contact Verizon support

you can't put your contacts on the incredible using backup assistant. you need to get a gmail account and work on getting your contacts over to there.

i have a gmail account. how do i get my contacts over there keeping in mind that i have a dumb phone?

once you back up your contacts via Verizon's tool, download the .csv from Verizon that contains your contacts. Then upload the contact list to Googles contact (log in to google then just do a google.com/contact search and you'll see it)

It's a pain in the ass though as all the phone numbers from Verizons .csv file showed up in a Notes section in Google contacts. I had to manually move them all to the correct phone field to get it to show up on the phone correctly

how many contacts do you have? it might be easier to just manually enter them into your gmail account

ugh what a pain in the ass this is....can't i just take my phone to a verizon store and get them to transfer the contact over using the cellebrite machine? do they charge to do that?

they should be able to...10 bucks at the most....free if you sweet talk them.

Actually, the Incredible DOES work with Backup Assistant. Check the UG @ pg 199.

Once you have your old phone backed up you should be able to just run BA on your Incredible and they'll sync down.

once you see all your contacts on the Verizon page, you should see a little gear symbol. Hover your mouse over it and it will give you the option to download the file.

I like this method though as it gives you control over your own contacts. Now you can go to googles website and add pics to your contacts, add multiple phone numbers, email addresses, birthdays etc etc

1 more dumb question, can you transfer pictures from 1 phone to another?

Last phone I got, Verizon said the only way I could is if I had all the photos uploaded to their site. I got a MicroSd card with my phone and saved all my pictures on the card so I wouldn't lose them like I did last time.

Why didn't you just upload your photos to their site? Do you know how?

Yes, according to the UG, Backup Assistant is under Settings -> Account & Sync -> Backup Assistant.

Only thing I'm curious about is if once you sync via BA can you then sync your phone to Gmail. That way you can get your contacts all into Gmail for better contact management than the BA website.

Do this:

• 1. Log into My Verizon at verizonwireless.com
• 2. Click the “My Services” tab.
• 3. Click “My Contacts” under “My Cell Phone”
• 4. Click “Export to CSV”
• 5. Save it to your harddrive. It will say something like “contacts_10109923595402.csv”
• 6. Open Gmail
• 7. Click “contacts”
• 8. Click “import”
• 9. Browse to the csv file you downloaded from Verizon in step 5
• You are done. You should now see all of your Verizon contacts

BA worked well for me, all 126 contacts sync to my incredible.
Was a little surprised, being that my last phone on that # was a omnia, so I hadn't used BA in over a yr , since my Dare was on that #.
