Help Droid Maxx Bug Reports and Problems

Hi guys, figured I'd drop this in here rather than starting a new topic. I'm having a weird echo issue with my Droid Maxx that I can't seem to figure out. Here's the lowdown:

I have a JVC head unit in my 2007 Honda Pilot. The head unit is a 2013 model I bought a few months ago. I had it paired via Bluetooth with my Razr Maxx and it worked perfectly. The phone part and the streaming audio was beautiful. Once I got my Droid Maxx, I paired the two and all worked fine. There were a few things I had to get used to, such as reduced functionality from the radio because of Touchless Control.

When speaking with my wife on the phone via the hands-free BT link on the radio, she complains of hearing an echo. Not an echo of my voice, but of her voice when she's speaking. The echo isn't transmitted to me; everything sounds fine on my end. I tried adjusting the noise cancellation and the mic levels on the radio, but nothing helped. My Razr Maxx didn't do that, so I was stumped.

I got another clue last night when speaking with her via the phone's speakerphone. She again complained about the echo of her own voice she was hearing. So that made me think, the issue isn't the BT link or the car radio, but something about the mic on the phone. I looked all through the phone but I can't find any place to make adjustments to the mic.

That's the background, so the question is, is anyone else experiencing this issue and if so, were you able to solve it? I Googled the issue and came across a person that solved a very similar issue by removing the case from their phone. I have the Verizon bumper case and was going to take it off and see if that helps - figured it can't hurt. Any other ideas or suggestions?

The recent Moto X OTA update changelog lists a fix for an issue like you describe. There are rumors that Motorola is planning a soak test for the Maxx, ultra and mini soon, and hopefully it will include that update as well.

Good deal, thanks doogald! I saw on another site that soak test invites for the Ultra/Maxx/Mini were on the way so hopefully that means the release isn't that far behind. The unfortunate part is that the update - from what I've read - will break JCase's root method as the exploits are patched.

Once I get the update, I'll post back to advise if the problem is fixed. Thanks again!

Thanks doogald. Instant success with the play store. Much appreciated!!!!

Un installing the update worked because that my apps option is only available in the old version of the store. The new version of the store uses a card uI and you can slide out from the left of the screen settings menu which has the my apps option. It's no longer in that 3-dot extended menu

I didn't see that specific issue mentioned in the changelog that's posted for the Maxx/Ultra. Is there a more "official" changelog other than the one Verizon posts? I always assumed Verizon's changelogs are dumbed-down a bit for the average consumer and not detailed enough for us enthusiasts. :)

The only changelog that I know of for the Droids was for the august ota that took the phones to 12.7.7. The Moto X ota changelog I was referencing was for the recent update (in October) for those phones. I know that there is a soak test going on but that's unofficial.

I am not sure if anyone has had this problem but I haven't been able to get a full day from my droid maxx. I do not sync my emails. I do not have Bluetooth on all the time. I use WiFi at home and at work. My screen sleep is set to 30 seconds. I even have the screen brightness set on auto. Battery usage kept telling me it was 65% or so from the screen.
Called vzw they stated to take the phone off of auto brightness and have the slider set. They are going to call me tomorrow and see how it goes. I owned a RAZR maxx HD prior to this and had the phone lasting almost 2 days without a charge with minimal use.
If anyone has experienced this or heard about this please me know.
Thanks.

Speaking of third party apps. Has anyone figured out if using an advanced task killer helps the phone at all or is it something that truly isn't needed?
I also have avg antivirus downloaded and have that run every time I download a new app. Verizon has their own version of an antivirus also.
I am not new to smart phones nor am I new to owning a droid phone.
I'm just trying to fine tune what I use on this maxx. Pretty stupid having to worry about apps now with a phone that has the best battery on the market.

Truly not needed.

That's probably unnecessary, too, particularly if you are installing apps only from the Play Store or Amazon's App Store. If you are sideloading apps on your own, though, then it's probably smart.

Task killers are a bad idea. They can actually make the condition worse. The way is they kill an app that is then restarted and they kill it again and it is restarted. So an app that was sitting there doing nothing is now constantly restarting.

I use Nortons (the free one) to scan all apps that come into my phones. I don't know if it is needed. It is automatic and my opinion is ... why not? There have been reports in the past of apps from Play Store with some form of malware being distributed. This was less than 100 apps in an inventory of more than 1,000,000.

Right now I am getting about 27 hours and still have about 24% life on the battery. I am a moderate user on my phone, texting, social media every so often, email not pushed, no gaming or videos.
How long is everyone getting with their battery and what kind of use are you doing with your phone?

Can you get screenshots of the battery screen display (settings->battery)? To get a screenshot, press and hold power and volume down at the same time. Get the battery screen, which has a graph of battery usage over time and a listing by percentage of the highest battery use. Then touch "screen" and take a screenshot of that. Finally, go back to the battery display and touch the graph. That will show another display; grab a screenshot of that, and then post those three screenshots.

They should look like the ones that I have attached...

Here are the images.

That looks completely normal based on my use. 5 hours 23 minutes is a lot of screen time. I generally have about 2 hours 30 minutes in a 17 to 18 hour day, and put the phone on the charger when I go to bed at about 50% to 60% battery left.

You also didn't start the phone with a full charge.

Again, I think that looks as expected.

Anyone finding the return hard key bringing up Google now similar to a long press on the home hard key? Just started after I updated this morning... kinda lame.

I think you mean the back button. Yes, I mentioned it here: http://androidforums.com/motorola-droid-maxx/791550-maxx-update.html#post6253561

The same thing happens on all of the capacitive buttons, including recent apps, when you press the key and then slide your finger up. Again, this seems to be a controversial change - probably the only gripe that I've read about the update so far.

First post.

My Droid MAXX is having major Bluetooth connectivity issues with my car (BMW 550i). Initially, I paired the phone and listened to music and made phone calls for a good day or two with no issue.

Since then, I cannot maintain pairing longer than about two minutes. Routinely, I get to about the 90s mark of a song, pairing drops, and my FM radio comes on. The car will then appear to be searching for the Bluetooth connection. My phone will still show it as being paired/connected.

I tried turning off my Assist "driving" to see if that made a difference. Nope.

I tried turning the "Bluetooth Visibility" setting to "always" to see if that made a difference. Nope.

It will also drop calls when I'm talking to someone, too, so this isn't just limited to audio/media.

I need to try my wife's Maxx to see if it has a similar problem. Dealer paired his iPhone with no issue.

Very hard to diagnose whether or not it's an issue with my car or with the phone. Bluetooth would drop occasionally with my old Samsung Galaxy Nexus, but not enough that I felt either car or phone had issues.

I'm going to schedule dealer to look at car and Bluetooth, but I'm a bit wary that the issue might be with my phone.

Oh, and we've already downloaded and updated the iDrive on the car to make sure there weren't any software updates there that would handle the issue.

I had the same issue and spent 6 hours at the Toyota dealership, then got a second Droid Maxx. The Droid Command Center was incompatible with blue tooth in my vehicle and kept turning it off. Once the Droid command center widget was disabled, my blue tooth worked.
