Disable Pincode Security when on home wifi network

I am interested in having my phone recognize when I am connected to my home wifi and disabling the need to repeatedly enter my pin code. I would like to only enter it once to as a safety feature but then no more as long as I am connected to my home wifi network. Could tasker do this? I know tasker has quite the learning curve. There is also an app in the play store Unlock with Wifi for $4.99. I don't mind the $4.99 price tag but for that I could use tasker for that and so much more. Any suggestions/recommendations.

Tasker can do this, and so much more. The down side is that you have to be rooted to do it as it requires a special plugin to perform the task.

This was the sole reason I rooted my last phone, to do exactly this and one other automated task - rebooting my phone automatically every morning. I honestly do not understand why both of these functions cannot be done without rooting. It would seem that it should be something the phone is easily capable of doing.

But the answer to your question is yes, with the previously stated caveat.

Thank you Methos1979. That answers my question. I was rooted when I had my Galaxy Nexus but as of right now I have no interest in that. I agree those are functions that should be able to be done without rooting. Guess it's off to the play store for me to buy Unlock with Wifi

In just checked out this app, pretty slick bit to pricey for what little it does, imo. But what really bugs me is that there is an app that can do this with no need to root. If an app can do it then there should be a way to program this in Tasker!

False. I'm doing this right now with Tasker and Secure Settings and I have not rooted my VZW Note 3.

Those should give you everything you need to do this through Tasker. One caveat, this doesn't happen instantly, as Tasker limits it's activities to save battery life. If you have a weak WiFi signal it can also toggle a lot, which just means you need to put your password in even if you haven't left home.

I read a review in which a guy claimed his phone wouldn't take his pin after installation of this app and he was forced to do a system reset to unlock his phone. That scares me off. Whatever mistske HE made I could make.

The only thing I can think of is that when you install this app it asks you for a pin. I made that the same as the pin I was already using to unlock the phone previously so I wouldn't have any screw up on my end. So no issues here thus far.

This is interesting - Tasker and Secure Settings was how I did it on my Motorola Razr Maxx HD but I thought I had to be rooted to use Secure Settings. I know definitely had to be rooted to do the reboot program.

I'm going to try this without root and see how it goes. Stay tuned!

Okay, I investigated the issue and I was right, sort of! You can use Secure Settings to disable the keyguard only. If you use pattern lock though - which I do - you need to be rooted, otherwise that feature does not show up.

What I wonder is if there is a way to "trick" a stolen phone into opening by creating new trusted wifi locations? How much battery does it use?

You can definitely do that with Tasker. Tasker is an incredibly powerful app, even more so when rooted.

Yes I think so. In Tasker, set up a profile for your home wifi connected then create a task by going to Task > Net > Mobile Data > Set to OFF.

Make sure you have an exit task for this profile set for Mobile Data ON

(An exit task is a task that will complete when your primary profile task cannot be completed. In this example, when NOT connected to home wifi then turn Mobile Data on.)

Disable cellular connection completely or automatically switch you from cell data to your wifi whenever in range of your home wifi?

If the latter, Y5 Battery Saver (free app) does exactly this. It remembers your wifi connections so that when you come in range of them in future, it automatically switches you over to wifi.

I don't understand. I thought mobile data always disconnected automatically when connected to wifi. The 4G lte symbol is gone.

I'm using UWW. I would love to learn Tasker but feel like I need to take a course to understand it. One concern I have is if I download a project from a user could it enable him to hack private data from my phone?

Anyway, for fellow UWW users here is a tip, if you have a dual band wifi system at home be sure to sign up to BOTH bands. The 2.4GHz and 5 GHz bands each have a different BSSID so each needs to be added to the UWW unlock list separately. Note 3 can and does use both bands.
