Root [International] Auto-start/run/launch Kies 2.6 still possible?

Hello everyone, this is my first post in this forum.

I am also new to the android world, just got my Galaxy S4 a few days ago and while "learning" it bit by bit everyday, I just noticed I can't get Kies 2.6 to auto-run when the phone is connected, like iTunes does with iPhone.

I also noticed that this option existed in old versions of Kies, but the checkbox option in this version of Kies's Tools and General Preferences is just missing in my window.

Any workaround?

Thanks for the quick reply!

My pc installed the drivers when i connected the phone to it, if that's what you mean (tell me if you meant something else).

And no my phone is not rooted yet, because most guides to root are for android 4.3 now from what I noticed and my carrier hasn't made 4.3 available yet, don't know if there is a better method (still new like I said).

Android 4.3 comes with Knox security and locked bootloader and therefore, rooting it will void your warranty. See, Knox Security & locked bootloader on new firmwares.

To root Android 4.2.2, pre Knox firmware, see posts #1 - #4 of, Rooting Galaxy S4 - Dummies Guide.

Welcome to the forum Seinen:wavey:

Yeah it's better to root while you're on 4.2.2. You'll then be able to flash a 4.3 custom ROM which doesn't change the bootloader to the new locked one:)
Thanks for the welcome!

Since, like i said, i'm awfully green yet in android stuff, do you happen to have a guide link you could send me, in order to do the above process?

EDIT: Just noticed ironass has already done that, so unless you happen to have a similar guide, never mind!

Rooting successful, thanks to ironass's guide!

This has gone quite off-topic, but this is probably my last question (dunno if I missed it in the guide): how do I flash any custom rom/app I want, from now on?

I think I understood that everything is done via Odin for flashing any rom, but I may be wrong.

Again, if there is a thread for flashing roms and anyone can, please post it. :D

Seeing as its your last question...

I guess you missed #3.1 of the Rooting Galaxy S4 - Dummies Guide. :D

I think I understood that everything is done via Odin for flashing any rom, but I may be wrong.

DO NOT use Odin on your rooted firmware with the old, unlocked bootloader and no Knox. Only use CWM flashable .zip files for ROMs.

Again, if there is a thread for flashing roms and anyone can, please post it. :D

Each ROM will have its own flashing guidelines which must be read carefully and thoroughly before flashing.

You could do worse than see #2.10 of DjeMBeY ROM's i9505 - Dummies Guide as well as post #144 of the same thread.

Please read everything thoroughly and carefully before flashing any ROM as you have an unlocked bootloader and no Knox and should aim to keep it that way.

Guys,
anyone solved the mystery why the option to "Run Samsung Kies automatically when a device is connected" is missing in Kies 2.6?
According to Help, it should be found in Tools->Preferences->General tab.

I can see 2 processes running in background (Kies.exe and KiesTrayAgent.exe) even if Kies UI is not started, but after I connect my Samsung G3 with USB, nothing happens. I have to start Kies manually to get the device synchronized.
Thank you!
