Whatsapp contact not showing

I downloaded the whatsapp and many of my contacts are showing in the program, but my friend who recomended the program does not show up. And he does not see me in his app. I texted Dubai from the app today and it worked just fine...and very fast too. But not my local friend. I have droid two and he has and iphone

I added him as a contact after I downloaded the app. Since he did not show up I uninstalled the app and installed it again...still not showing.

I refreshed and app and also make sure my friends number had a country code...still not showing.

1: Is his number on your phone contacts?
2: Is "whatsapp contacts" being synced? (look this up in accounts & sync menu)
3: Refresh your contacts

Hi, thanks for the information.
I did all of that. Does not work.
It is interesting that he does not work on viper either.
And I have people on Whatsapp that I know do not have my number in their phones.

That doesn't matter, if you have someone's number, but the person doesn't have yours, he/she will be shown in your contact list.

I don't know how to solve your problem, but if Viber isn't working also, it's probably some wrong setting in your device.

If you don't have much to lose, I'd suggest doing a factory reset.

It would be major to do a factory reset. The thing is that many contacts work on viper and whatsup....his does not. And he is able to use both of them with other people but not with me!

No need to do factory reset. Go yo whatsapp and check on show all contacts and it should work find. Problem is with software that is trying to show only contacts with whatsapp and updates its registry wrongly sometimes

You should also check under hidden contacts for your friend.

I discovered that if the contact has a number from a different country than the number you used to register you Whatsapp with, you need to go to contacts and add the country code before the number (e.g. +44 for UK)

My example: I downloaded and registered my Whatsapp with a UK number but when I moved to Croatia I switched to using Cro number and started adding Cro numbers to my contact list. For some reason they wouldn't show up in Whatsapp contact list unless I saved them with a country code.

I have the same problem (apart for Viper that I do not know what it is).
Xperia Z1, Android 4.2.2, last version of Whatsapp. At least for one contact I am 100% that it is not showed as whatsapp user but is whatsapp user.
I did everything (but a factory reset). I refreshed contacts, written all contacts in international format with country code, synched whatsapp, deleted and recreated the contact, installed and uninstalled whatsapp.
No contact is hidden, and show all contacts is selected.
No idea what else I can do.

Thanks for the answer, but the problem was due to ignorance of how WhatsApp works.
The person had changed number and i didn't know that WhatsApp was associated with the old number...
