Why no ads for the Incredible?

Also recall that the DROID launch coincided with the holiday season. Obviously, it's wise to capture that holiday shopping fever with ads. We're sort of mid-Q2, I wouldn't expect a major ad campaign that would capitalize on sort of a shopping lull. Now, had the Incredible launch coincided with tax-day, when people might have gotten a refund and feel like they have some expendable cash, maybe, it would have been worthwhile. But yeah, nothing to capitalize on right now to justify a major marketing campaign.

That and VZW did not record as big a profit gain Q1 and going into Q2, as they had in Q4 (likely due to the DROID), so they may be a little cautious about throwing money around. That being said, VZW hasn't had a huge history of pushing state-of-the-art HTC phones, likely because HTC has their own ad campaigns. Motorola was likely a huge proponent in getting some of those DROID commercials off the ground. So, don't totally blame VZW, as HTC would be partly to blame as well.

They REALLY hyped up the Droid - remember the meteorites falling and the secritive thing inside. It really created a lot of buzz.

I don't really care that it is not advertised. I actually like owning something that few people know about or have even heard of. They can just admire it!

You should ask how the Nexus One people feel. You want more ownership because there's more security in the platform being further supported. There are some N1 owners feeling like Google has abandoned the project. It also can't feel good that Google is just giving away N1 to encourage developers to come to the Android platform. But yeah, in the end, you want to have widespread adoption of a device because it'll ensure the likelihood of its support. This is standard business model.

This sounds pretty reasonable. Also Motorola has been a part of many huge ad campaigns in the past so the public knows who they are. Everyone knows someone who has had one or more Motorola phones. I'm pretty tech savy, but I didn't know anything about HTC other than their phones never seemed to fit me until the Eris and the Incredible got me to do some research. I think if HTC hits a home run with the Incredible we may see some Motorola/VW style ads for their future phones.

Luckily, the Android OS has a ton of support from users like the fanatics right here on this web site(look to your left, nod, then look to your right, wink). So even if we aren't getting the "Official" updates for the Incredible as quickly as we want, we should have a few options. From what I've read, rooting is so easy it seems like it is silently encouraged to keep the uber users happy. This has usually been the climate with Apple - They don't publicly encourage hacking, but they always leave a few doors open for the small percentage of their fans to get creative. This is a good sign that momentum will continue building for the Incredible, HTC and Android.
