Root [Verizon] ROM - HyperDrive RLS6

Rsl5 released. Make sure to go into your stock slot and accept the OTA, then reroot before installing. Need the baseband and kernal...

Ryan, taking the OTA should give us the new baseband and kernal right? I didn't know if you were saying we had to flash different files or just stating that we need the new baseband and kernal for RSL5 to work. Just wanting to make sure. Thanks!

With a VZW store bought version I can't install the baseband and kernal separately. So the OTA should take care of that for us. If you have a developer version then the OTA is not something to worry about because you can update and install those files whenever you would like..
That said, I was having problems taking the OTA.. Still am. Trying to find the best way to update still. Will update when I have gotten it done.

Not on Verizon, not on that rom, but superuser comes up with 2 options, AFAIK. One is ask me in 15 minutes and one is just granting access. Click on that one instead of 15 minute one.

You may have to go into the su app and delete the permission for that adb thing and let it ask you for it again and choose the right one this time.

The ADB shell was used by kingo for rooting, so make sure you update SuperSU and it should be fine after that.
I am also having the settings force close when I am trying to change my swipe/pin lock on the lockscreen settings on slot 1, rsl5 ... Going to have to figure that one out.
Otherwise still love this ROM.. Keeping for daily use now all set up again!

Update.. Had to downgrade SS on my stock slot to 3.65 until hashcode updates the beta 3.7 to get my locks reen options back. But done now.

So yeah I was trying to explain to Chief that somehow I managed to root my device without partitioning a particular part of the internal storage to a different slot for the ROM.

My default ROM (stock) is now gone, all that's left is Hyperdrive. So somehow I managed to get around safestrap partitioning drives and just have my entire internal storage as the ROM.

Both are features of safestrap I believe. DC.. You should be able to go back into safestrap, and reodin the MJE to a rom slot, or factory reset? Gotta remember this one.
And true on the size of the safestrap partitions for ROM slots 1-4..its how it's built. But like DC just found out... If you move your stock ROM to another slot, you can install a ROM there and get access to the whole shebang.

Is anyone else here having issues with 5.5? I start getting FCs on everything I try to open and have no recourse but to reboot. This is at least a daily occurrence. That and it refuses to remember my wifi credentials: every time I try to connect to my wifi, I have to re-enter the password.

I just fixed permissions, but I don't hold out much hope on that.

EDIT: Scanned through a ton of XDA pages, apparently I'm still on MJ7 baseband. I'm going to wipe cache and Dalvik and re-flash the ROM...

EDIT 2: Apparently dirty-flashing the ROM will not update my baseband! I'm STILL on MJ7 instead of MJE. Looks like a clean flash is in my near future :(

Hi chief.. Sorry I didn't see this sooner. PM if you have questions after this...
I tried to take the OTA and it kept failing. Then tried to Odin the MJE...and it left me in the mj7 baseband, 2 days of set up on a clean hyper install later... I was still having problems with wifi and security settings. This is what I did.
In my stock slot, moved my TIBU files and pictures etc to the SD card, removed SD card. Then, uninstalled the recovery inside of SS. Uninstalled SS. Then Odin back to mj7. Rebooted to locked and stock mj7. Then took the OTA. Then followed the root process with kingo, SuperSU SS etc. I installed wanam to get rid of custom lock etc. Then back to the SS recovery to create a new slot.. Max out options for slot 1, install a clean hyper 5.5 there. Then reset all my TIBU settings backups and reinstalled my personal apps.
Sounds like a lot of work, but really into took about an hour. All because I tried to Odin to mje.. Failed on my retail version apparently. After about 5 days on a clean hyper 5.5...i am all good.
Here is my about phone as of this morning...

Dang that sounds like a lot of work! Psychologically, I can't STAND back-tracking... particularly when it comes to my phone. Unroot, go stock, take the OTA, re-root, and do all that over again? UGH!

I suppose if that's the only way to do it, though, then that's what I'll have to do. Trying to think of any way to get on MJE baseband without all that, though. Looks like I know what I'll be doing in the morning

Thanks, Ryan!

EDIT: Hey, I have the MJE .tar file... what if I just Odin to THAT and not do the OTA? :)

Okay, so I'm finally about ready to do this. Please check my list to make sure it's thorough:

1. Titanium Backup of current apps and app data, create TiBU.zip file
2. Nandroid Backup of current ROM (just in case)
3. Select stock slot and reboot
4. Remove microSD card
5. Open Safestrap and remove TWRP Recovery
6. Uninstall Safestrap
7. Uninstall SuperSU
7.1 Factory Reset times TWO
7.5 ODIN back to stock MJ7 and reboot
7.6 Factory Reset AGAIN

8. Accept and install OTA to MJE
9. Reboot and reinsert the microSD card
10. Root via Kingo
11. Install Safestrap and SuperSU
12. Create ROM Slot and clean flash Hyperdrive 5.5
13. Reboot, setup and flash TiBU.zip in Recovery
14. Batch restore apps and data
15. Reboot & profit

Is that about it? Or did I miss something?

TIA :)

Okay, I'm in crisis mode.

I am up to the Odin step. Odin will NOT recognize the .tar.md5 file I downloaded from XDA! When I try to extract the file to make sure it's not a zip of a zip, then I get a "file is corrupted" warning! The .md5 matches, so it's a good download.

I'm now STUCK. Please enlighten me on what I'm missing here, or kindly direct me to a functional MJ7 file.

THANK YOU!

EDIT: I found an MJ7 .tar.md5 file, the whole thing has an MD5 of

479782a871d202cba80ec452925d0f05

Will SOMEONE here please verify that's a good file? I'm stuck in stock limbo, I really need to Odin this file but don't want to screw up. Finding this file is like pulling hens' teeth!

Thank you SO much - Odin in progress! Let's see if I can finish this in a reasonable period of time...

EDIT: Oh, no.

Okay folks, toss me a bone here... I put the MJ7 tar.md5 file in the AP slot in Odin and started the flash. Successful. Upon reboot, all MY data is still there! I tried to install the MJE OTA and the phone said "Sorry, there was a problem with your SM-900V. No changes were made."

:(

It's early for this: what am I doing wrong? What happened? Wrong Odin slot? Did I skip a step?

I appreciate your help, folks. My brain is frazzled here...
