Well now that some of us have our Heros, and more will get them on Sunday, we need a place to talk about apps.

One of the apps I would recommend is Barcode Scanner as it scans QT Codes, so should you prefer to look up other apps from your PC all you need to do is scan the QR code and it will take you right to the app. In my opinion it makes it easier to find and add apps to your Hero.

Pandora - If you like the computer version, you will like this as well. Im streaming it as I type and the quality is good. No hiccups with the songs or anything.

Power manager, switches settings depending on whether your running on battery power, usb, or the charger, great app, and advanced task killer, lets you select and deselect task to exit out of, quick uninstaller is nice too to get rid of apps. Pandora works great though, nice quality, i get a little bit of hang up when im multitasking though, but im chalking it up to not being a in 3g area =/

I have to ask why you decided to use another switch settings app. Does it do anything that the Sense switches dont? Is this automatic like Locale?

i havent messed with it too much just got the phone last night xD, i do believe it detects which source of power your phone is on automatically i haven't had to change it on my own, and I just didnt know about any other apps that switch battery related settings already on the phone haha.

edit: Anyone else's pandora freeze up for a sec when they get an incoming message? I thought it was my signal but I'm noticing it only happens when the phone gets a new text message or something like that.

Yeah, the Hero has a Bluetooth, WiFi, GPS, Mobile Networks, and Airplane switch. Each one of those switchs can be put on one of your home screens.

Menu > Add to Home > HTC Widget > Settings and there are you switches.
Or Longpress an empty spot

Power Manager "automatically" changes your settings based on whether the phone plugged in or not and on how much battery is left.

Don't bother with the free version, you can't edit the preset profiles to your liking. If you want these features, then you'll need to pony up the 99 cents for the full version.

If ever get irritated because the screen fades out and locks when you don't want it to, then you'll want to get Screebl.

Basically what Screebl does is monitor the angle at which you are holding your phone. If it's upright then it will keep the screen from fading and locking. Once you lay the phone on a flat surface, Screebl re-enables the default device setting. If you keep the default at its lowest setting (15 secs) then it will fade out fast but only when you mean for it to do that and not while you are reading something.

My favorite use of this is with Pandora. I put my phone on its side and prop it up against something. With Screebl the screen stays on and I can glance over at any point to see what song is playing and I can quickly give it a thumbs up or down or skip it.

Love "Screebl Lite"...what a great idea. I was thinking to myself the first couple days about a way to make the screen stay on instead of constantly tapping the menu key. Then shazzzammm...Screebl pops up.

Also love "vizBattery" and the % remaining icon, which makes so much more sense that just an ever shrinking green battery shaped rectangle.

The "Schwartz" is awesome and makes me laugh. It's great for anger management when somebody pisses you off, just whip out your Schwartz and have at them.

"Pandora" is wicked cool. Like having Sirius Satelite Radio in your pocket.

"TasKiller" is very helpful, although i don't know what half the things are it shows in list running.

The "Compass" app is nice to have and "ExFlashlight" is also a good for those times you end in a dark place without a light (plus it offers a red light for less intrusion sneaking in the house late...ha-ha).

"Note Everything" works well, although i haven't really put it throught the paces.

"Draw" is fun for my kids to play with...under my close supervision of my Hero of course.

"PicSay" is kinda corny, but again it's fun for my kids.

Lots more to check out and try.

I'm not getting my Hero till Nov (contract is up), and i'm a huge soccer fan, are there any cool apps for keeping up with domestic and international leagues?

Bobeink

I'm currently using "SportsTap" and think it's fantastic. It lets you follow all the major sports, professional and college (Soccer includes 11 countries, UEFA Cup and Champions League and World Cup.). You can also select your favorite teams and get updates when they play. Best of all it's free.:D
