Root [Verizon] Flashing over Stock Slot

Anyone done this on their Note 3 or any device using SS? I'm seriously considering it, to me it's not much different than having an unlocked bootloader and flashing over your stock ROM. If a 'problem' were to arise and you needed to return to stock, can't you use Odin to get back to a stock ROM state?

1) Yes, but it's not advised. Read the SS thread on XDA. Some people have done it.

2) Yes, and there's a thread to get back to MI9 (which will probably cause the phone to eventually try to update to MJ5).

And next time you go bungee jumping, use thinner rubber bands - it's more fun. (IOW, not many of us are as willing to risk $700 as you are yet.)

I'm already on MJE baseband and I have the Odin file for it, so even if something does happen and it does soft brick, I can Odin back to stock. Yes, it's a lot of 'work' to have to start over, but with a TWRP backup, once it's rooted and SS installed, it's just a matter of restoring.
With my Note 2 I ran a custom ROM, granted it had an unlocked BL, but running a custom with SS is 'similar'.

I read a lot about it this afternoon and I like the ability to read the 'actual' available memory on my phone (I'm weird, I know). I used SS on my Moto Bionic too so I'm pretty familiar with how it works and I honestly don't see a reason to keep the stock ROM on the phone when I'll never use it. Especially when I can just flash it back if for some reason I need it.

How much memory does it take to use say slot 1 for a different ROM while SS remain idle/unused. How much is being wasted. Thought about that kingo method, but upon thinking, I really just want root. Not necessarily a new rom.

So conflicted. I am like week 2 of avoiding the vzw update. Not sure I want to take it. Especially since its not clear if foxfi is working without screen lock

The Slots work off the microSD card, NOT internal memory (which is where the "Stock Slot"/stock OS is). You assign how much of the card you want the slot to have. I assigned 3 GB system / 3 GB data / 1 GB cache out of a 64 GB card.

Even with an old Hyperdrive ROM still in Slot 1 (remind me to delete that and recover the memory some day, I'm on Slot 2 now), I have plenty of room left over.

+1 to Chiefs list except that I am using a full slot 1 with the same maxed settings on a 64gb SD card. I left my stock slot alone, albeit I odined to mj7, then OTA then SuperSU and SS.. And then left the stock slot alone. Now I have hyper drive on slot 1...and have tried beans, clean ROM and several others on slot 2...but keep deleting that slot, and going back to hyper as my Daily Driver. I like having the options, and can use the stock slot for whatever I need.

Basically it's all personal preference. Seriously. If you just want root on your stock slot.. Just root, install SuperSU and SS.. But just don't add a rom or create another slot. Just leave it rooted and install TIBU or whatever you want to uninstall bloat and profit!

I'm still not 100% sure about FoxFi. It was working without the lock screen for awhile. Even with a custom ROM it updated are then required a lock screen with seemingly no workaround. I finally ditched FoxFi for good, on HyperDrive, the hotspot works without any 3rd party app.
So basically, from what I can tell, FoxFi is requiring a lock screen. Which is sad, I loved that app, but despise being forced to use a lock on my phone.

Chief, is it a limitation in SS that prevents the Slots memory from being set to whatever we want? I thought that SS used the internal memory, which is probably just my lack of knowledge of SS. Thanks!

I can't answer that limitation question, Mr. Clean. SS is IN internal memory as an application, but the Slots it creates are on the SD card.
