Hi,
i have an:
G2 T-Mobile Touch
FW: 1.5
Baseband-Version: 63.18.55.06U_6.35.04.25
Kernel-Version: 2.6.27-a5504199 Htc-kernel@and18-2 #521
Build-Nummer: 1.76.111.6 146733 CL#47214 release-keys
Softwareversion: 1.0.0.A6288

I tryed to root and upgrade my hero to 2.1 with the instruction given in http://androidforums.com/all-things-root-hero/54802-how-root-install-custom-rom-backup-more.html

1. Installed Instant root -> seems to be ok, no errors.
2. - 5. Flashrec, working.
6. Titanium backup: -installed new BusyBox
- still get an error: "BusyBox works, but the "su" doesn't work. whoami command didn't return Root/uid 0. It returns whoami: unknown uid 10083. System-app "superuser whitelist" doesnt work. Check this."
So i tried to install superuser whitelist, but i cant install it. Error: "Cant install"
In Titanium Backup is a tab which is called Save/Recovery, i saved Country and Wlan Access Points. In the batch-menu i have no apps to save: Save all user apps: 0. I do not really need my user apps, because i can download them again.

So i am a bit confused now. Can i go on with the how-to or do i have to fix the titanium backup "warning" first?

Does someone know a free shell app, to check if i really rooted my phone?

Thanks a lot for your help.

I had the same warning. all i did was to ignore it and I'm now on Villain Rom 5.3.
And everything works apart from mms but thats a well known problem.

thanks, i'll do that, if we don't find a solution until tomorrow.

USB Debugging has to be turned on for su to work, I believe.
Menu->Settings->Applications->Development
Check that USB Debugging is checked, then retry any application that needs root.

Is already checked. Thanks anyway!

iam having the same issue...everything you did ive done and got the same results except that iam not sure if the flashrec worked at all...i didnt know what to type into it and when they say flash, iam lost cause theirs no option on their to do that, it just creates recovery which i did and it put two files on sd card which i cannot open so iam lost about that.

my usb debugging is turned on...titanium opens up but gives me that SU warning msg. so iam damn lost. when i reboot it does not go to that other anroid settings screen so from reading all the posts, looks like our phones have been rooted cause the programs would not work/install but something else is wrong.

if you have sorted could you let me know. cheers

I got the same warning.
It turned out that my phone wasn't properly rooted.
(Even tho, titanium backup said that everything was working fine. The thing that set me off was that i could only update a few of my apps).

So instant root didn't work (it doesn't work for everyone for some reason). So I had to do it the hard way.
