Seeing as how this is my first smartphone, it is pretty overwhelming with all the features this phone is capable of that my old phone was not..

Just playing around with the phone for a few hours raises many questions that hopefully other android users/veteran smartphone users may be able to answer.

So I decided to make this thread for all us android/smartphone newbies to ask questions that other people can hopefully answer for us.

A few of my questions are:

-How do I completely stop an app from running? For example, when I back out of NFL mobile, it is still running in the background but how do I shut it all the way down?

-How do I edit "my dictionary" that I have when texting. I accidently added a few words to my dictionary that I want to erase...?

-In the HTC weather app, how do I delete a location so I don't have to scroll through it every time. I don't care about the weather in New York and want to delete it but don't know how

-Is there a gmail widget that I can put on one of my homescreens? I want to be able to flick over and have my updated gmail on one my homescreens but I only see a widget of HTC's mail

I'm sure I will think of plenty other questions soon...

If I could get some assistance in answering these questions it would be very helpful.

Thanks for helping out a fellow android n00b

First ?
Task killer. Plenty of them in the market. Advanced task killer and taskiller are two that come to mind.
Also it depends of if the app was mad eto do this but hitting the back button till you get to the home screen sometimes exits a app fully.

Just a guess but when in the weather app hit the menu key to see if there are any settings or options. I dont have my phone yet so i don't know for sure.

I do believe there is a gmail widget that will do this. Exec assitant comes to mind. Its in the market. Theres probably more you should look at the application section of the forum for some ideas.

Some times on the mobile site there is a link somewhere to access the full site. You could then just bookmark the full site.

I'm going to wade into this thread. I'm coming from an EnV2 and the Incredible will be my first smartphone. Looking at apps that do this and do that, texting, ringtones, etc.; I find myself wondering does the phone come able to do all this stuff?

I mean, I can get an EnV3 and know that as soon as I turn it on I can call someone, text them a message, send them a pic via text, set up my ringtones, set up alarms and more just from the phone itself.

When I turn on my Incredible I will be able to accomplish all this without any apps, yes? The apps just make things sometimes more streamlined, no? If HTC includes Peep with Sense UI, why would I want any of the six thousand other Twitter apps?

Maybe I don't need this phone after all...sheesh. :)

You can go into running services under applications in the settings but it wont show you all apps.
The only thing i use a task killer for is to kill a app that is frozen. Otherwise android does a good job managing memory for me.

Exec assitant does have a widget i believe but it includes messages and calendar so it might be more than your looking for.

oh yea, is there a way to decide whether or not you want to visit a mobile site vs the full site? i type in espn.com and it takes me to the mobile site automatically

No. It does the same thing on my iPod Touch. The best thing to do is to go to the bottom of the page and click on espn.com logo..it will take you to the full version. Then bookmark that full version.

Theres a htc mail widget that takes up the full screen and automatically pull up your lastest email messages. It doesn't look like in the videos that its installed stock like it was on the eris so you may have to either download it or just add it to one of your home screens. It used to be one screen to the left on the eris so that might be a good spot to put it in on the incredible. Anyhow it does exactly as you describe, this is one of the reasons i like senseui, theres alot of cool widgets included with it that makes life much easier.

does anyone know if there is a way to increase the length of time the LED blinks when you get a new message/email? my LED does indeed flash but it seems to turn off after a while. i like being able to look at my phone and tell whether something is waiting for me without having to push the power/lock button.

nitpicky, but just curious...
