Official EVO Rumors and Speculation thread

Well when Apple came out with all their "patent infringement" stuff, I kinda looked past it. Now Microsoft wants a piece of the Android pie... And this worries me. When the 2 biggest competitors gang up on you, well, I just hope the EVO comes out before they put a hold on production and development of the OS.

Apple has been in deep discussion with Verizon for over a year and many Verizon employees have been spotted on Apple HQ. USA Today released an article today which stated that the deal may just go through and Apple's next iPhone (next as in the 2011 model) quite possibly could have big red's logo on it and possibly LTE capabilities.

Link: Apple and Verizon consider iPhone deal - USATODAY.com

I have yet to see any Apple, Sprint negotiations or comments thereof, however even if there was there would be no WiMax this year either way since the upcoming iPhone's hardware is final build already and it doesn't support 4G whether it be WiMax or LTE. I do like the concept of having the iPhone on Sprint's network but the logic behind it as a Sprint customer leaves a bad taste in my mouth. First thing that comes to mind is what happened to AT&T's network as soon as 20 million teenie-boppers raked havoc on their network.

Sprint and Apple were in talks over carrying the iPhone since 07. AT&T has the exclusive and the talks were never made public. Verizon touches a apple and it's breaking news. Regardless of everything people read, AT&T could extend their exclusive agreement with Apple. They have a option in their contract to do so. Apple could very well create a iphone for Verizon and Sprint, but AT&T will try to make sure that doesn't happen. Iphone 4G has nothing to do with "4G" technology, so WiMax and LTE goes out the window. The device is also completed, but a lot of the specs are missing from the public. Sounds familiar don't it?

Edit: AT&T exclusivity with the iphone ends in June. You won't hear if they did till then. Apple will have to disregard AT&T's option, and actually pay them back if they do so. The day that happens, you'll see the other 3 carriers with the iphone.

Considering there havent been any rumors about Apple extending their contract with AT&T...and how far behind AT&T is in the "4G" race....why wouldnt Apple want to move on?

Its up to Apple to decide who they want for 4G....Sprint now or Verizon in 2011?

For Sprint its win/win....but I would actually prefer it if Sprint strictly focused on the EVO as its flagship phone for 4G. If the EVO is the true king of the Androids, that is going to be a big enough buzz itself.

So in case people missed it, have there been any Droid Incredible commercials? Im just wondering if Verizon is not even worried about pushing it, considering the EVO beats it in every way.

I think Apple would stay with AT&T as well. Why would they force their customers with previous versions to go with Sprint? Only those that want the iPhone 4G and WiMAX service would go with Sprint.

Bill - here's my take - part of it is dollars and cents. Will Apple make more money through what AT&T will pay for exclusivity vs having the iPhone on Verizonwireless, and maybe Sprint and TMO?

Also - knowing how their marketing machine works - in addition to dollars and cents - what would create the most buzz???

Hopefully, Hesse was being tight-lipped on the EVO and 4G rollouts because they want some element of surprise. I'm sticking with Sprint - and really want to EVO, and will probably wait. But IF Sprint were to announce the iPhone 4G - how many (not from here-but from the general population) would jump on THAT?

Earlier this year - when the talk of a Verizon iPhone got serious coverage - there were pne or two places (I don't remember where, or how reliable they are) that mentioned CDMA, and the possibility of SPRINT.

I have been saying for months now that the evo needed to be released way before apple can attack them with the iphone. It is no surprise that apple has bumped up the date. Now it can start flooding the media from may 31-june 15. Now what dates do those cover, hmmm.

Has I have always said. Apple is going to run over the Evo. Sprint now has one choice. May 23. If they do not get the phone to consumers by that date, it will be an epic fail. Just like the pre and instinct. So you are down to the date sprint, if you do not release the phone before may 30, you are dead in the water.

About the class of microsdhc card. It does not matter. Either way you are fine. Please see this post for info. http://androidforums.com/htc-evo-4g/65837-class-2-class-6-microsdhc.html

It was a GSM radio found inside the leaked iPhone, unless AT&T can grow a 4G network in under a month what's the sense in building an iPhone with 4G for a carrier that has no network to operate on. It's not like the iPhone "4G" will be around for many years to come Stevie releases a new iPhone every summer.

We've only seen ONE leaked phone. There is nothing to say that there isn't a CDMA phone out there, and what additional radios it may or may not have.

I agree with you about the refresh cycle that Apple has, but I'm not ruling out 4G YET. (even though I know that Apple loves to release tech, and then release a new version with new features really regularly to keep those sheep buying).

It's funny that you asked because I just heard a Droid Incredible commercial. It was on the radio though.

Did anyone notice that the the picture that Bill posted on the first page of this thread. It's the hi-res image of the EVO with Thursday June 1st on its display. The 1st of June this year is a Thursday. Here's to hoping for a June release...

Edited by twospirits:
Resized the image so it will not mess up the page width format.
Just click on the image to open up in a new window in full size.

Thats what Im saying...im seeing no buzz at all for the Incredible. No TV ads, not alot of Web ads/banners....just the small buzz on the internet.

When the first Droid was being released, they had TV ads all the time, weeks before its release.

But hey, thats a great sign for the EVO. Considering how much Android has grown....if EVO ends up being the true king of the hill, you might as well advertise it as one.

Then the EVO is going to fail then, because this phone will not be released in May. Period. I know the tentative release date, and the month isn't May.

I don't know if you read my posts, or think I'm a Geek Squad member, but listen to a person who have numerous meetings with Apple. As of Wednesday, April 28th 2010, LTE/WiMax/CDMA iphone doesn't exist.

What difference would it make? From what I understand, you can't run/install apps to the microSD anyway, so I'm guessing the class of the card won't make much of a difference.

From what I've learned in another thread, the difference in speed pertains to write speeds only, so you'd only see a difference when you were copying files, movies, music, or whatever to your card. From what I read, the read speeds are the same for the different speed classes.

card class is the standard rating for the minimum write speed of a card.
The ability to run applications from card is irrelevant per se; a card's class will certainly affect transfer speeds (between devices) but it will also affect the device's ability to record and store HD video/high resolution stills etc.

I could not agree more. As much as I may not like Apple with their tight grips on everything, they are VERY SMART. They know exactly what they are doing and why. They understand and know how to market their product and show up the competition. I still do not believe Sprint will move up their date, because they do not want to seem to be REACTIVE. They want to remain PROACTIVE, so I say bring out the big guns and market the EVO on TV with Apple products.

I can't wait to see what the EVO commercials will be like. I mean you already see the ads all over the internet. No doubt the EVO will be the king of android devices.

Sprint Positive About Q1 While Still Shedding Dollars, Subscribers - Mobile and Wireless from eWeek

Nothing groundbreaking here, but Sprint is having a good day on the market (after the entire market had a horrible day yesterday) - which shows me that the Q1 earnings are better than expected despite posting big loses.

I think having less of a loss was Sprint's biggest concern, which they succeeded in.

Unfortunately, Sprint is always behind when it comes to having the "greatest spec'd" phone. The Palm Pre last year and ended up not succeeding how they wanted it to.....and having the PRE Plus release on Verizon put Sprint behind again. Plus the PRE was never up to spec compared to an iPhone.

The EVO can and will be, the 1st time Sprint will have a smartphone ahead of all its competitors...with either a May/June release, there will be no phone on the market that can compete with it in all tech aspects.

Even a Nexus One released on Sprint would still be inferior. This is the first time( w/ 4G) that Sprint will have a jump on everyone, with no other carrier being able to compete atleast until 2011.
