Eris Users Upgrade to Incredible?

A little history first. I came from a Moto RZR a few months ago to be an early adopter of the Nexus 1. Soon found that tMobile didn't cut it coverage wise so I returned it. However, I really loved the OS and so I decided to wait for the N1 to come to VZW.

Not being able to wait for the N1 I bought an Eris for $10 and signed up for a 2-yr contract. During the couple months or so with the Eris I flashed both leaks. My Eris was working very good indeed with few problems.

I then pre-ordered and received the Incredible today. It is a sweet phone however, this is the point I want to make. Once the official 2.1 is available, the Eris is and will continue to be one fine phone. If speed is your cup of tea then upgrade but just realize you'll be able to do the exact same thing on your Eris so think twice before you take the plunge.

This is in no way a buyer's remorse statement as I really wanted the speed and it is nice to have everything functioning as it should. I'm sure there will be problems. Remember, the Eris will work just as well in the future minus the speed.

Can you comment on the dialer? How quickly it connects to call and if there's any lag associated with it? I've never really been sure if its just been the Eris, or whether its been the network, but I'm considering upgrading to the Incredible, and that would be a nice piece of information to know.

While the dialer sucks actually talking on the eris is fine. What exacty are you bitching about? Easily on par with my berry talk wise.

The phone dude doesn't matter how good the taking is if you can t answer a call. Or dial someone takes 5 minutes. It is an embarassment. I love the eris, but god the phone will be end of me. And i have done all the tricks and tips...so my question was simple. If it is better or not cuz that would be sweeeeet if was better.

I honestly don't have that issue with mine. If the call log stays trimmed its faster then the storm. Let it build up and its horrible. After adjusting slot cycle I haven't missed any calls.

People who used to do this stuff were labeled as nerds and ignored. It's amazing how marketing hype has turned us all into mindless zombies.

I'll keep my Eris and be content to have my web pageant load 2 nanoseconds slower.

Fixed. Please don't generalize so much like that. The dialer on my Eris works perfectly. I can pull up the dialer and find a contact within seconds. All you have to do is hit the hard call button and start "spelling" the name of the person you want to call with the dialer then touch that person's name, voila! Call is made!

I really couldn't have said it better. The DI is very fast and things just work. Touch something and it responds. I so wish my Eris would have done what this phone does. The Eris is a little smaller but not by much. Noticeable to me but probably not by most. No reason to upgrade IMO unless you have a scheduled upgrade and $200 to blow. I did.

That's because the "nerds" and the "ignored" went on to engineer the phone that you're using.

Phones have become like watches and can represent your social status. It doesn't make you a better person, but it is more than likely that a successful person would use a smartphone than a dumbphone. Similarly, there is a stratification in the smartphone world, where an iPhone may be viewed more highly than, say, a BB Curve.

It's weird how it works, but it is very much evident in society today.

Something interesting I've noticed ever since I got the rooted 2.1 leak. It takes 3 seconds for the phone to show the incoming call screen. It never did that on 1.5. Its sort of annoying, since the ringtone is playing before it loads, and you have to wait before you can answer if you happen to be using the phone. But the actual dialer and placing an outgoing call are fine.

Maybe its a weird optimization issue or something or a bug. If the official OTA update is ever released, I hope that fixes it. Otherwise, I'm happy I upgraded. The phone feels more responsive otherwise.

Actually theres a $30 discount code in the incredible forum, if you use that with the ne2 discount of $50 or $100 that brings the price down to: $129 (-$50 NE2) or $79 (-$100 NE2). Thats not too bad if you ask me. I hear units are going quickly, which doesn't suprise me as alot of would be nexus one users just got word its not coming to the verizon network anytime soon.

Same here... a co-worker just got the Eris, but since they are still within their 30 days, are considering going with the Incredible. I don't blame him though... of course I'd be slightly jealous, but I also would be happy for him. And beg to play with it of course.

May 4 UPDATE: After a few days of use I'm returning the Incredible and going back to the Eris. Other than speed, I'm not gaining much with the Incredible. I guess I did end up with buyer's remorse after all.

Interesting, I have an Incredible charged up waiting to be activated but have been holding off because I have family visiting and I know I'll ignore them to play with the phone if I do.

Once people on here realize custom UIs ruin the performance of the phone, there will be no threads about being pissed off with their phones.

If it works fine for you now, that's great. If you have issues with lag and this and that not working, you go and buy a stock Android phone. I learned this from experience and it's the best way to learn. Custom UIs ruin phones for me. And while no one here will admit it, they can live without the user-friendly menus and appreciate the speed.

Maybe it's the minimalist in me, but I can live with bare-bones if it's stable. That's what Linux is all about. Adding Sense and BLUR is just there to coerce people to use the phone, like saying "come here, it's not all that bad, we'll do half the work for you."

That's just what I think. We are all trying to forget the shortcomings of our phones, but some people just will not let it go.

I posted earlier in this thread that although I was within my return period when the Incredible came out, I was going to keep my Eris. I was able to play with the incredible as two of my coworkers got them. They are very responsive, but what I liked most was the 2.1 software. I prefer the Eris form factor, trackball, and hard buttons. I am glad I kept my Eris (especially for $29), and I am awaiting the 2.1 OTA release.

Very interesting. The nice thing in that scenario is that no matter what, you end up with the phone you want.

I am a 4 month Eris user that upgraded. I was tired of the lag on the Eris and having to constantly kill off apps to free memory. Well worth it to upgrade. I have 260mb of free RAM now vs 90mb on the Eris and because each unit will never go under ~10mb of free RAM you can calculate as so...

90mb - 10mb = 80 mb usable on the Eris
260mb - 10mb = 250 mb usable on the Inc.

So in the end the Incredible has 3.125 times as much usable RAM for apps. This is huge because you dont have to worry about killing off apps anymore to free up RAM.

One handed typing on the onscreen keyboard in portrait mode is much easier for my thumb now due to the larger screen.

The Eris has serverd me fine but it was just too frustrating to use due to the lag. It would not keep up with me and I hated that. Plus its much easier to view webpages now with the larger, higher resolution screen.

Also can finally play some games that were too slow to play on the Eris.
