Motorola Droid (OC) Beats Droid Incredible in Speed

Wow i was as shocked making the video as i am right now. Ran both of them side by side and motorola droid had a faster speed test the the incredible. equal playback of music from sd card and equal boot times. Droid running Bugless Beast v1 overclocked at 1ghz. Keep in mind the incredible not only runs Android 2.1 but Sense on top. Also keep in mind im not a Motorola Droid users defending his phone, i am a new incredible user showing hard facts with video.

Just ran linkpack on both and Motorola Droid hits 8.2 MFLOPS and Incredible 6.9 MFLOPS

this is meaningless tbh, put the droid back to stock 100% no custom rom or OC then come back to post this. it is like comparing a corvette to a cavalier w/ nitrous and turbo on it, sure it may run almost as good if not better at times but sure as hell is not factory

I don't doubt the results, I am sure HTC Sense takes a couple processor cycles - but I believe it adds to the overall experience. Doesn't quite seem like a fair fight. An overclocked, custom ROM against a stock phone?

I think it's a fair fight. It's kind of cool seeing heavily-tweaked older technology compete favorably against the state-of-the-art. I'm not too surprised by the results either; last week I bought a Droid and ran it at 800mhz to see if I was happy with the speed. It did very well against my friend's Nexus One.

In the end though I decided to return the Droid and now have an Incredible, since I wasn't happy with the Droid's battery life running at 800mhz. I'm hoping the stock Incredible will be approximately the same speed as the OC'd Droid, but will last longer.

The videos are offline, but this "study" tells us nothing. If he wanted to present credible results he should have used a sample size >1, which I'm betting he did not.

I find stuff like this interesting as well, but I don't see others as 'butthurt fanboys.' They're merely saying this isn't an apples to apples comparison. Compare them stock or wait till a custom ROM comes out for the Inc, o/c the hell out of the Inc and do the same comparison.

I could increase the voltage on my old Athlon64 rig's RAM and overclock my CPU, GPU, and I could potentially beat an Intel Core i7 top of the line rig as far as benchmarks go. The issue is that in doing so, my hardware is not running in a stable manner (in such a scenario, I would almost certainly require extreme cooling from a liquid nitrogen or related chemical), letting off heat at an expanded rate and draining the battery.

Incredible should get well over 7 Mflops, you must be running apps in the background. Also, you cant compare a custom ROM which probably runs far less processes in the background with a somewhat bloated ROM that comes with the Incredible.

i agree that the tests are unfair. Custon roms are always faster than stock even not overclocked.

not only that but holy crap.. the droid is oc'd by almost 2x it's STOCK clock speed. that cannot be good for the cpu... that's a massive heat increase. probably taking a ton of life off that cpu in the process.. if not damn near about to kill it... i wouldn't be surprised if we start seeing bricked phones shortly from people doing dumb crap like that and leaving it.

exactly... i agree 100%. i had a moto droid, and its slower compared to my new incredible. Of course, my moto droid was all stock no custom rom or OC'ed.

You aren't going to see a difference in your SD card. I'm not sure how many times people have to say it. Try recording video or taking high res pictures, that is where the card is going to make any difference. Loading up music, unless it is something like FLAC, isn't going to tax the SD card.

That aside, the Droid has a very solid chip. I am not surprised that an overclocked Droid gets similar performance. I am actually looking forward to the new OMAP chips, but I would much rather run my phone in a stock environment. While I understand many people have had success with overclocks, I just don't want the hassle. Rooting, finding and adding custom rom (which I've seen brick devices before, most notably a TP2 just a few days ago), updating custom roms regularly, keeping up with performance and always the looming possibility of crushing my warranty. I can't afford to just throw hundred dollar bills down the drain. Custom roms are cool, don't get me wrong. Being an enthusiast is awesome, but I just want something that works out of the box.

The Droid is a very capable phone. I like Sense and I like HTC, though. With all of the lawsuits swirling around HTC, this might be my last chance at an HTC phone with Sense... so, I might as well make the jump. =D

if it wasnt clear on the first video i make it clear on the second video. Incredible has other things running like Sense UI. Also the custom rom from pete cuts back on some processes found on stock Android 2.1. Until incredible gets OC then this is the best i can do. To be completely fair not even. Nexus One vs Incredible is an equal fight bcuz they use different processors

look at video 2, incredible is not underclocked. Its running at 998mhz according to setcpu

The n1 and inc use the same proc. I know sense is running, that's why droid had the advantage along with petes rom. Inc proc can be oc'd to about 1.17ghz safely.

exactly someone knows how to search and read. i agree with you 100%. Wifi issue. you can't test both phones at the same time on wifi. he needs to do one then the other so its fair, because both phones are pulling banwidth at the same time you'll never get accurate results - dsl tech
