Upgraded from a Sony Ericsson P1i which was a great phone but I wanted something with good internet access, ability to install apps, a good camera with flash and GPS to save on number of devices, so I upgraded to the Desire.

Any help is appreciated. This phone has great potential but at the moment I am not overly impressed for the money.

Camera

Really disappointed with it. Finding it very 'hazy'.

Here are a few pictures - not impressed for a 5mpx camera. My P1i produced more sharpness than this.

Cloudy, unfocused, blured etc etc

Also finding that you have to be very very still to prevent blur

Q. Are there any settings to use to get the best pictures? Are there any good apps to use to improve the camera?

Bluetooth AD2P music streaming

Annoyed with this too. My P1i would connect to my car bluetooth stereo and stream MP3s with no problems. The Desire keeps cutting out for a second or two then continuing to play the music. At first I thought it was because of an incompatability between the stereo and the phone, but yesterday for some reason it was perfect and really good quality. Coming to work this morning I paired it all again then tried listening to a few tracks but it was back to cutting out every 10 seconds or so for about 1 or 2 seconds then continues.

I tried using app.killer to shut down apps running that I didn't need incase it was a resource issue. I also tried tuning GPS / wireless etc off if I didn't need it. However, on a phone like this, you shouldn't NEED to turn stuff off to run others.

Q. Any ideas of what is going on and how to fix?

Notification LED

Weird one this. I thought the idea of the LED is so you can look at your phone and tell if you have any new messages / calls missed etc without powering up the screen.

Quite a few times now I have looked at the LED and it has not been flashing but I have picked my phone up anyway to do something else - when I power up the screen to unlock I see there are unread texts???? So why no LED??

I have also turned the LED OFF for emails as it was getting annoying I thought I had a text but it was the 100th email of the day so I turned that notification off, but sometimes it still flashes for emails.

Q. Any help or suggestions with this?

LED as a torch

With the P1i I could turn the camera on, then half press the focus button which would turn the camera LED on. I used to use this alot when I needed some light on something - it was great, really quick and accessible.

Q. Can you do this with the desire?

Internet Browsing

Again, a bit annoyed with this. Thought for an internet device, the internet isn't as good as I would expect. Mainly the load time of pages and some pages do not load at all. I have mobile-browser turned off so I can see the full page and a good signal on HSPA - but one of the forums I go on loads about 80% on the load bar then just stops - even after re-loading.

Q. Any suggestions?

Thanks for the reply.

Don't forget you have bought THE first release of the desire. Things will improve through upgrades. But as a first attempt - this phone is amazing and will get lots better.

Yep this is kind of what I am betting on. There are issues but hopefully apps and updates will be released that improves the potential of the phone and the droid system - especially the camera - it's terrible!! Going to play with some more settings this weekend..

I think the camera is pretty decent, try messing around with the settings until you find a good setup, they do make a difference.

Bluetooth, not really sure, some poeple do have problems, but i've tried it with nokia bh-503 and backbeat 903 headsets and they both worked brilliantly. Maybe be aware of what you might be killing using a task killer.

LED notifications work fine for me, make sure you double check app settings.

torch.. gimmie a sec :p

Browser :O Its amazing!!! Is the issue just with that forum?

I took the plunge with the much anticipated n900 and if you think you have a phone with issues, you shoulda tried that back in November! 2 insignificant updates in 6 months! Rubbish.

At least the desire does most things very well. Its better than the iphone and with maturity and fixes will come a superb piece of kit.

I think there's something wrong with your camera/settings, my photos in low light don't look that bad!

Yah, im going to have another play with the settings - try again.. Good to hear yours are okay though - means the camera is 'capable' of taking good shots.

Heres the app to use your LED as a torch, i'll host on my site once it gets back up :(

2shared - download flashApp.apk

ARR one issue solved. Awesome. I thank you sir. :D:D

Regarding the camera - I have noticed a tendancy for the apature to be too wide (e.g your shot in the car park) and I always ramp it down a bit.

Also, don't have a pop but presuambly the lens is crystal clean - it does seem foggy/smeary and too blue?? I had a Nokia N85 which had a great camera but was forever getting crap on the lens despite a cover........ :D

No don't think you're having a pop at all - all comments are welcomed!

The phone is pratically brand new, so the lense / rear cover with lens cover should be clean enough..

How do I change the apature?

Its easy to get greasy finger marks on the lens cover ( I speak from experience :D)
Could some of your pictures be due to human error ? If so get picsay Pro, brilliant app but well worth it if your going to be using the camera a lot :)
