Official EVO Rumors and Speculation thread

I love it:

"you haven't seen anything like this....."

Well until the EVO comes out LOL

Ha. Then Sprint should put out a commercial that says:
"Remember that Droid Incredible you were hearing about?..... You hadn't seen anything like it... And now.... IT'S ALREADY OBSOLETE. Welcome to the EVOlution."
and then cue the graphic showing an EVO screen opening, like a mouth, and swallowing the Incredible in one bite.

With 1.5, my Hero would usually get me through the day. With Fresh 2.1, my hero gets sick battery life. Easily the best smartphone battery life I've ever had. Hope it's the same on the Evo!

As I said in another thread, "Thank God for rooting"

To the rooting experts, will this be something that will be done easily on the Evo?, I know it's all speculation, but I am wondering...

Exactly, so can you please keep it on-topic and move all the non-related traffic to The Lounge? Any general questions/answers about the EVO would also be better posted in their own specific thread.

Thanks for your co-operation. Keeping this thread 'lean-and-mean' helps both Android Forums and any other site linking back to it.

I think people need an example of what's considered on/off topic... But you might be about 100 pages too late.

I've commented a couple times about the chitchat burning up 10 pages of non EVO related post. forums have general topic areas so threads like this can stay on topic. What happened with this forum ?

Thank Bill for posting all info on page one. He must spend hours per day reading all this to shift info. to page 1.

These phones typically are rooted shortly before or after release. It's one of the main requirements when I buy a smart phone. I wouldn't buy a computer where I was never allowed or able to install a different OS so I wouldn't buy a cell phone that didn't allow me to do the same. Not sure how long it will take for custom ROMs on it but knowing the community, there will be tweaked and optimized versions coming out shortly after release for those of us who like to tinker.

Rooting should be easy enough since Android 2.1 has been rooted for a long time now. Honestly by the time the Evo gets in your hand you'd probably want to flash a Froyo build before rooting, pretty sure Froyo will be released before the Evo. The phone itself matters very little as far as rooting the OS is what matters and 2.1 has been rooted for a long time now.

First commercial for the Incredible. Dear Sprint, please don't make a commercial like this that doesn't even show the phone, and just lists specs that most people have no clue what they mean.

<<Video deleted>> /QUOTE]

I respectfully disagree with your opinion. This is how they started the original Droid commercials and it worked. People already know what a Droid is so they can identify this as something new from Verizon. I think it's brilliant. What I would definitely not do is the scary woman from the Pre commercials...

Well, Palm couldn't apparently afford decent hardware. At the time it was a best-in-class processor for phones and the OS is great. Too bad it isn't GPU optimized and the hardware isn't very sturdy. Otherwise I'd have no problems with it.

Out of curiosity, how long was it between G1 and Hero? I only ask because people expect a lot from Palm and it's just not that easy to go from first release to more polished followup in less than a year and without a lot of cash to invest.

Palms problem with the Pre wasn't being able to pay for better hardware, they really thought that design was the best way to go. They wanted it light and small and they were wrong to go that route.

I remember when I saw the keyboard was portrait and I thought "damn that's stupid, it should have been landscape" then I saw an interview with an executive who said that their data suggested people liked portrait keyboards better because most people used them, they didn't seem to realize it's because landscape keyboard phones were still relatively new compared to blackberries and other palm devices but I know the majority of people find it easier to type on landscape boards.

They also said all future phones would be portrait because they wanted people to be able to brand identify their products so to them you know the phone was a palm phone was more important than being able to comfortably use it.

If palm could make a heavier duty pre with a landscape keyboard and a 3.5-4.0 inch screen I think that'd be nice, the shape of the pre isn't so bad it's the size and the build quality (and the keyboard) but the phone it's self looks nice, it just feels like a cheap piece of junk.

Skyfire for WinMo allows flash also. Thing is, skyfire takes up a lot of memory when it's being used. I only use Skyfire on my Touch Pro, when I want to stream sports. For regular browsing, I use Opera.

It's only temp memory, isn't it. I currently have Skyfire on my Moto Q9c and it rocks. Its the only browser I will use when the EVO comes out. I am glad to here it is out of the beta for android. Just in time!

Yeah. Only temp memory, but that drains the battery faster. Nontheless, still love having the option to stream sports.

I thought the EVO is going to support Flash? Wouldn't that mean that skyfire isn't necessary?
