TMobile Update today

We'll see how the battery fares today, but I'm not worried. I'm a light user and after 12 hours of use I always have about 90% left. The battery has always been the most awesome thing about this phone.

I left the house at 8:00 this morning with the battery at 100%. During the day I made and received a couple phone calls, googled for about an hour, spent another hour using other apps, checked e-mail a couple times, and it's now 4:00 and I'm home again. The battery is at 92%.

I don't see any change from how the battery held up before.

Update. I believe the batter issue has to do with the new CPU settings. I'm stuck on userspace with 2.3ghz as the minimum and maximum. I can't change a thing. This is beyond ridiculous. A T-Mobile rep told me they will probably fix it but I don't think they will because it's how google wants their "open sorcery os"

I just got the KitKat update on T-Mobile today.. Don't see much of a change in the way that it looks or works. Will do some more research today to see the differences. I was really looking forward to more lock screen options.

Immediate difference is that all the colors from top menu taskbar are now all white. Stock samsung keyboard has also gone all black. I dunno if it was a Note 2 thing with 4.3 I had with ATT but the stand stock phone listing color is now all white instead of black as well

I was able to move pics and movies from my mSD card just fine with stock file manager, beyond that I don't put stuff on my mSD card, even music *shrug*

I noticed the same thing, although I use ThickButtons instead of stock keyboard. For me it's just the icons in the top panel that have gone all white. I don't care much, though.

Kit Kat won't let most apps write to the external SD card. To mollify some of the unwashed ("My phone has no SD card") they're labeled part of user storage "internal SD card". What a joke.

This is why I had my update frozen by last week, and it's staying that way until I see if they change things back more to the way users want it or keep it the way they want it. If they don't change, my updater stays frozen. I'll stay on 4.3 until it's time to get another phone, then sell this one on Swappa, 4.3 or whatever the current version is, buyer's choice. In about 2-3 years. This one does all I need or want.

Can someone specify where to turn off automatic updates? I went into the About Device section, but couldn't find it there. I then used the search option which found it, but when I try to uncheck it from the search results, it just opens the About Device window. So next I thought maybe the "Software Update" button might contain a sub menu, but when I press it, it actually tries to perform the update.

This doesn't stop t-mobile from sending you the information but after it's sent you do have an option to update or cancel. This sucks. I wiped my phone. Started fresh. Downloaded the update. It still fails during the update process at 28%

Now the long process of setting up all my apps again.

Red5ive, if you're rooted, just freeze your software update app. (In AT&T it's AT&T Software update, TMobile probably call it something similar.) Then it'll stop bothering you about updates. You can still choose to autoupdate your apps or not in Play - that won't affect the Android update any more, since your phone will never be notified about an Android update.

Ok, thanks, I already have Google Play auto-updates disabled. I just figured this might be a separate setting since it's a system update.

Thanks, it isn't rooted yet. I just got the phone a couple of weeks ago, and I'm not sure if I'm going to root this time around.

I removed root

Thawed all system apps

Gets up to 28% on the update slider and then says "Update Failed".

Don't know what else to do.



Edit: I can download the entire update. It fails during the update process after the first reboot.

How did you remove root? And did you unistall the super user app? Also do you still have the original stock recovery.

I ask as the only way to get an OTA update to work (yes they will download on 4.3) is to unistall the SU app, clear dalvik cache and cache then flash the 4.3 firmware you are on but the stock version and go to updates on the phone from there. This entails a complete rebuild of the phone once updated and a reroot I'm afraid.

Well if your phone is rooted, it won't even let you download the OTA software because it says your phone is modified. So being able to download the patch means it doesn't see root.

I used Kingo to root my phone. Kingo has an option to unroot also. I tried that first. Error at 28%. So I rooted again and then used the SU app and uninstalled it from my phone. Downloaded the OTA again and it errored at 28% again.

Finally I removed root using Kingo, then did a factory reset. Before any apps were downloaded I downloaded the OTA and started up again. Again it had an error at 28%.

So I don't know what else to do.

Mine was charging slower also, but suddenly it is now charging as fast as before.

I also noted that the battery was depleting much faster than before. I am hoping this will change soon the same as the charging.

There are so many issues with this kitkat update that I need a replacement. I get like 5 hours out of my phone.

It's always running so if you do lose your phone it can be found.

That's what I have Where's My Droid for.

I wonder about attacks only. But even if the phone was successfully attacked, so I just wipe it and reinstall the OS. I don't keep anything on it that anyone would want or could use - no passwords, etc.

I just don't see the point of having Lookout running 24/7.

Last night I disabled Lookout. I took it off the charger this morning about 8 am with the battery at 100% and went about my day. I made a couple calls and used a couple of apps for a few minutes each. It is now 10 hours later and the battery is still at 88%. Not quite as good as it used to be, but pretty close.

More important, it has been about 20 hours since I disabled Lookout and my phone has not been hacked or exploited. I think people listen to Lookout's scare tactics just because they're accustomed to their Windows computers getting hacked all the time. Maybe someday Android will be as big a target, but for now, I'm going to leave Lookout turned off. Or maybe I'll turn it back on when they come up with a version that doesn't suck my battery dry.

sgtbilko80 suggested a fix for you failed OTA upgrade folks in this thread. I'm not sure if it will work but what can it hurt to try...
