Gmail Push Setting

I cannot find a way to change the push setting for the Gmail app that came with the phone.

I setup a Yahoo account and was able to adjust hourly, 2 hour, manual, etc..

For the Gmail, I cannot find a setting that allows to adjust this?

It is push (instant). There is no setting using the GMAIL APP.

Well first, you should not be getting hardly any "spam" thru GMAIL. Second, it's kinda counter productive, don't ya think? Would you always be switching back and forth between polls? I mean if you could do it, would you switch from push to 8hrs when you went to bed, then switch to PUSH when you wake up? If thats the case, just uncheck the EMAIL notifcations before you go to bed, check it back when you wake up.

Go online to your gmail acct.

Go to settings and then to the forwarding tab.

Turn off pop and enable imap.

Imap means that your phone will not have to look online for email, the email will be auto sent as soon as it comes in.

Now you dont have to worry about your phone constantly looking to see if you have any mail on googles servers.

which means better battery life.

I mean if you could do it, would you switch from push to 8hrs when you went to bed, then switch to PUSH when you wake up? There are apps that allow you to change audio profiles based on the time of day.

I don't usually get much spam, but i get a ton of crap that I don't want bothering me in the middle of doing something else.. Most of the stuff I am getting is like "Your payment has posted" or "Your order has shipped" or "Come check out this cool sale".

It isn't SPAM.. I mean I have done business with them before.. but I just don't care to read it the second it comes in. Friends I talk to on Facebook or texts.. I don't use email for personal correspondence.

Anyone else tried the ActiveSync method for Gmail? It's working great for me, and I think it's a true push method.

Then send people of importance (ones you want to responded to this email address (or similar) yourgmailname.PUTWHATEVERYOUWANTHERE@gmail.com. Those emails will come to phone and you will be notified.

Thinking about it, it sounds you could care less if you get notified AT ALL. I'd just filter as described and when you goto your GMAIL app, all the emails will be there, just marked read. Much simpler, depending on what you want.

There are definitely things I miss from my blackberry too, but I'll just have to adapt because this is a pretty awesome phone.

All, point of clarification on the GMail app... This functions as a push email as is? Do you have to make the change in setting online from pop to imap for this? Also, I've made the HTC Mail client only manual update to prevent further battery loss as this is only pull, correct?
