Help HTC M8 Camera Discussion-Show off your pictures!

I'm not a big photo buff. I read the article... meh. I guess we'll see once the phone is released. I don't need magnificent photos from my phone anyway. Most of what I take gets sized down and shared. What I do need of a phone camera is a quick point and shoot that will capture the moment. If it lends a bit more depth to my photos.. cool. If it works well under poor lighting.. very cool. I don't think there will ever be a phone that replaces a slr.

Front camera confirmed as 5MP, Rear cameras 4.1MP, and 2MP. Dual flash designed to normalize colors. Second camera designed for depth of field effects, multipoint refocusing, and 3D effects. This is not a true 3D camera but the depth of field enhancement allows for for an enhanced "3D experience"

4.1MP and 2MP? :boring:

Why are people so bent out of shapeMP? I thought we killed that "more pixels = better quality" already.

Are you blind? There is so little detail compared to other devices and that gap will only increase when compared to the new phones like the Galaxy S5.

Read this and look at the image comparisons, the only test the HTC One does well in was the night test, in everything else it's below average for a camera phone.

Those comparisons are for last years One, not this one. Noone is saying last years had a good camera.

I never said that the One had a great camera, but it's shortfall isn't the 4MP image size. The one place a higher resolution camera is a big benefit is in zooming or cropping. Aside from that, a good quality 4MP camera will give you better quality images than an average 8MP camera. There is so much more to quality that megapixels.

That said, I expect better PQ out of the new One. But just because it's still 4MP don't assume the PQ won't be improved.

Good, I'm glad because it wasn't.

But the post in the review I linked to was about detail, the reason the HTC One does so poorly here is because of the 4MP camera. If the new HTC One has a 4.1MP camera then it's not going to change anything.

I wouldn't say the 2013 One camera was bad, but it wasn't on rival with other phones. Lacked much detail. I wasn't a big camera junkie, but a while back after having a phone that had a really nice camera in it's time (iPhone 5) you don't want to go back. Now owning a Note 3 I definitely don't want to go back. I really enjoy taking pictures and recording.

Well based the hands on video's the Galaxy S5 does a pretty good job. :)

Yes it does, but it has to use an algorithm to determine focus points and hope it gets it right, the second camera provides actual data with one shot allowing for on the fly refocusing and a better chance of "getting it right".

Only tie will tell though. The software is still an important aspect and if HTC screws up the camera (purple haze) than I will give up on HTC. They have had a year to get it right.

Cramming more pixels on to a very tiny sensor does nothing for image quality. The old One with its low light capabilities is frankly quite remarkable. Being able to capture shots inside a darkened night club or restaurant is great. For real photography no one grabs there smart phone. More pixels is marketing speak for oh look more pixels it must be better. I promise you my old Nikon D40 and its 6MP sensor will extract more detail and be considerably sharper then that 41MP Nokia phone which is a joke.

Well it's not pretty, compared to devices from last year it comes out in last place and this is flagship device in 2014.

Check out the link, not much of an improvement over the M7, the colour accuracy has improved but it used to be terrible so it wasn't hard to improve upon. The samples are well not very impressive.

Surprised the Galaxy S4 came out on top though.

I don't put much weight behind camera opinions by a phone review website. The most important factor in taking nice photos isn't the phone it's the phone user. Give Ansel Adams a smartphone he'd have shot a masterpiece. Why? Because the most important factor is the artist. No one asked Picasso what brand of brushes he used, they just revelled in what his mind and hands could create. Perusing those ratings is almost meaningless.
