16 GB vs 32 GB

Is there any advantage of a phone with a 32 GB phone over a 16 GB phone with a 16 GB SD card installed?

I'm getting ready to upgrade as soon as the S5 is released. And my current phone is 16 GB and I have a 16 GB SD card that isn't even close to being full.

Is there any advantage for me to get a 32 GB phone?

Thanks,

John

I've learnt my lesson, so I'm staying away from 16GB devices and I hope others do the same and send a clear message to Samsung.

But I doubt that will happen... :(

Having to rely on rooting to use apps like foldermount is not a solution, it's a workaround for the pathetic 8GB of storage on the 16GB Galaxy S4.

I too will wait for a 32GB version. It's my fault - I am an app hoarder. However, are we sure the GS5 can't put apps on the SD card? I know under KitKat 4.4, there are restrictions on the way apps car write to it, but I thought you'd still be able to move apps (that are allowed) to the SD card?

After all the complaints, Samsung released an update that enabled apps to SD on the GS4. I thought they'd do the same with the GS5, unless 4.4 doesn't allow for it at all?

I said it in another thread, but I am very surprised that Samsung and ATT didn't learn any lesson from the memory debacle that came from the memory left over on the 16GB GS4. Therefore I'll hold onto my GS4 a little longer and see if they come out with the 32GB model. The 32GB GS4 came out like 12 days after the launch.

.

It never worked properly, it moves the app but not the app data which is what takes up all the space.

Some smaller apps it works well with but they were never the issue.

I have a lot of pictures on my current antique phone's 16 GB internal storage and still have over 6 1/2 GB left. I don't play games or have a lot of apps on my phone. I use it as a phone and send texts and emails. And for checking the stock market and taking a few pictures.

I have a 16 GB SD card in my phone for music and still have over 13 1/2 GB unused on it.

There will be a 32GB version but Samsung is denying the metal 64GB version some folks are calling the "Premium Version". The 32GB version was announced at Samsungs own Unpacked event so I dont see them backing out of that.

I thought I was paying pretty close attention to what is coming regarding the S5, I guess not. Is the 32gb coming soon? Perhaps I should wait for that..... Although I don't even use all the space on my 16gb S4.

I wouldn't go for the "Premium" version anyway.... I prefer the plastic for its resistance to dents and scratches.

Big deal, they also announced a 64GB version of the Galaxy S4 and I've never seen one in the flesh. Also it wasn't until months after launch that the 32GB version made an appearance, Samsung will milk the 16GB version as much as they can first and then introduce the 32GB version for a price premium, that's how it works.

I suspect the "premium version" as people have called it will be another Samsung product, Samsung seem willing to give anything a go I wouldn't rule it out.

That's not true - at least with AT&T. The GS4 32GB version was made available for ordering about 12 days after the 16GB was launched. I complained to AT&T at that time to no avail that they knowingly withheld this info until close to the 14 day return policy had elapsed.

It was priced $50 more than the 16GB version.

Well i'm in the UK and I only by sim-free phones, I didn't see the 32GB version available until a few months after launch and they charged allot for it. :(

A friend of mine also bought an S4 recently and they had no 32GB versions in stock.

Can someone shed some light is to way 16 GB is not enough? I just checked my S3 and I have 8.64 GB left open right now and I have 50 GB on my SD Card. I have a lot of apps and a lot of music, a ton of pictures and not to many vids. It must be games and or app use?

Applications can only be installed onto the internal storage, the size of games on Android continues to increase every year yet the storage available for applications stays the same.

Install 3-4 choice games and your internal storage is gone, of course if don't install large 3d games then this isn't an issue for you.

Sure it's games really. Gameloft's Asphalt 8: Airborne is 3.2GB, and it can't be installed on the SD. Yeh install a couple more like that, and your "8.64GB" will all be gone. It's probably these huge multi-gigabyte Gameloft and EA graphic extravaganzas that some people might wish to play on their flagship 16GB S5s. If one is content just to play Bejeweled rather than Call Of Duty, 8GB might be enough. Even installing apps, along with the additional internal storage they might use, the GBs can soon mount up.
