Root Stuck after flashing PB00IMG.zip

Hi all,

I have a Droid Eris that I'm trying to flash from 1.5 to the latest rooted ROM 2.1. My first attempt, I copied PB00IMG.zip to the SD card, disconnected the phone, and flashed the firmware while disconnected from the PC. I think that prevented me from gaining root access, because I cannot remount the system directory using the adb commands (gives me access denied). I'm trying now to flash the ROM while still having the phone connected to the PC, but I'm not having much luck, as I am still being denied access.

BTW, PB00IMG.zip worked WONDERFULLY on my phone.

Any tips?

Did you install the SDK and get to the $ before you installed the PB.zip?

Do you have Debugging checked on your phone?

I did have A LOT of trouble installing the USB driver. This problem cleared up when I installed HTC Sync (As per suggestion in a different thread). I can confirm when I'm in my /tools directory and I type "adb shell" I get the "$" prompt.

Also, the push command works, as that's how I can get the PB00IMG.zip image onto my sdcard. But if I type "su" it returns "permission denied."

I can also confirm that I don't have root access, because I tried to install wifi tether and was denied permission there too.

When you open cmd prompt and adb shell, type su hit enter and check your phone. Su permissions need to be allowed on the phone.

Also make sure USB debugging is enabled on the phone.

Tried that too. "permission denied" was immediately returned and there was no option on the phone to enable the superuser

So you did the install of PB.zip, did you install the recovery image yet or are you just checking for the su permissions before you move on to that step? If so I would just run thru the process and install everything then try to install your apks.

I've done the install of PB.zip, and I'm stuck trying to create the recovery partition so I can install the recovery image. I don't have root permissions to remount the system folder so I can create the recovery partition.

You don't need SU at this point. That comes at the end, I believe.
Make sure Recovery.zip has been extracted to the Tools directory of your Android SDK install.
You need to open a command prompt and execute these commands:

adb shell mount -o rw,remount /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system
adb push recovery.img /sdcard
adb push flash_image /system/bin
adb shell chmod 755 /system/bin/flash_image
adb shell flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery.img

I must be missing something then, because when I try "adb shell mount -o rw,remount /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system" it's returning "permission denied." This is where I'm stuck.

What operating system on your computer?
Do you have admin rights on the computer?

You might want to reflash the PB.zip. where did you download the file from? When I downloaded the link from sendspace I had a lot of issues. The one I downloaded from grdlocks site ended up working for me and didnt give me problems.

You might want to reflash the PB.zip. where did you download the file from? When I downloaded the link from sendspace I had a lot of issues. The one I downloaded from grdlocks site ended up working for me and didnt give me problems.

Ok, I must have gotten an unrooted image. You were right: I got my image from sendspace. I went to grdlock's site and downloaded the PB-root.zip, and I'm attempting to flash it now. Except I've got a new problem:
"Main version is older, Update fail." Is there a way to force flash?

Ooookaaaaayyy....I have not come across that yet. Now we are both stumped I guess. Have you tried the all in one script like suggested above? Another suggestion would be to head over to the xda forums, there are also a lot of knowledgeable people there with root experience.

My big fear would be that you somehow managed to download the leak version instead of the root version. Lets hope that didnt happen

OK, I know what I did. I was not aware that the unrooted leak is a higher build than the rooted leak, so I can't downgrade. I guess now my options are:
1-Waiting for a higher rooted build
2-Figuring out how to roll back to 1.5 and start over
3-Figuring out how to force the flash to the lower rooted build.

I'm thinking maybe option 1 is my only option, but I'll keep working on it.

So you installed the unrooted leak? If thats true, just give it some time, they will root the leak version soon.
