Okay, as long as the Mods play along!

The Best Phone Ever? Most importantly yes and no, but if yes for how long.?
I say, definitely until Qualcomm's 805 SoC. Even then, things might get called into question! Why, you might ask?
Best phone ever calls into question not just specs, but the ability to do what you want to do in a Phone!
Now, here is the catch! Course, I will agree with every positive and sound off if your happy. "BUT" every negative you can find with this phone. I will not only refute, but show proof M8 is as close to a perfect phone, if ever. I have done my homework, have you? I look forward to our intellectual debate, but you will loose. M8 is that good :)
P.S. I will not be merciful in my rebuttal, especially with concrete evidence.
So, understand your Lipo, UP, Google initiative, IP67, UX, form factor, and not so obvious specs, because it's on!

I can see this thread devolving quite quickly

In my opinion, the phone's function as a camera-phone is not up to par.
The underperforming, rear facing, main, camera unit immediately and automatically takes the phone out of the mythological question of "best phone ever", for me. The proof is irrefutable.

Agreed! Best ever is a pretty strong statement. The camera alone is enough to stop the conversation very quickly. However I do appreciate the fact that M8 owners are super emotional in the fact that they really love their new phone, and thats awesome! But the camera and video shooter are still on the very bottom end of best ever. Is it a very good device, absolutely! Best Ever, sorry OP, No! As a matter in fact a lot of us are still waiting for the Best Ever.

I'm honestly not trying to stir anything up here, but what happened to the intellectual debate and rebuttals?
I legitimately wanted to hear other opinions and broaden my mind. I have my own thoughts, but I try to always accept that not everyone is motivated by the same things or thinks the same way.

Most of the discussion is in the Are you getting one? thread.

Best phone ever (best anything ever) is always purely subjective, and in the world of technology generally short lived! I love my device and it performs everything I need it to and more.

Best device ever? No.. Simply because things turn over way too quickly in this world of technological marvels and (Cringes- Gimmicks) I would have no problem saying it is, and will continue to be one of the top phones talked about this year. I am also confident it will continue to be a competing device for the next year. At this point I would be comfortable skipping an upgrade cycle unless there is a major change with camera technology in the next refresh. There really isn't anything else that requires improvement in this phone, which makes me very pleased.

I am personally happy with the quality of the pictures for what I need them for, and our camera thread has some amazing pictures for those who would like to see just how well this camera does perform.

Like many have said, the only weakness is the camera and maybe the size but personally does not bother me. Having a faster processor means nothing. The m8 can run any app in the play store with no lag (except some very high end games that will probably slow down even next year's phones) now and for years to come. Some people don't realize how fast the device actually is.

What if the M8 had a tastefully placed Nokia Pureview sensor and optics, as well as their camera software suite? (Don't misunderstand, It is not meant as a put down and while good, I don't believe that the Nokia smartphone hardware is the greatest thing since sliced bread)

Or the new sensor from the Xperia Z2?

Or even the more traditional 13 MegaPixel sensor rumored to be upcoming in the sequel to the HTC Butterfly J (Japan exclusive)?

Hopefully we can take the high road and avoid any canned "its not all about MP", type replies.

I'll argue it is the best phone ever! Because it acts as a phone first and foremost. Only techies care about the camera and size. Steve Jobs said size doesn't matter. Well, I don't know what women have told him but he was wrong. Size does matter.. lol. If the phone was smaller, you might as well stick with the iPhone if you have one already. HTC hit the nail on the head with the M7 and M8.

People at work who has Verizon as a carrier are always asking me why my M7 and M8 can receive calls and text messages indoors. These are people that have notes and iPhones. When I walk into a room with my phones at work I suck up every available cell phone signal in the room.
