ATT KitKat battery issues

So for whatever reason the first two days after the update came I had great battery life. Since then it's been horrid, phone has been of the charger just over an hour and I'm down to 75% with only a bit of use. I have not installed any new apps and have now uninstalled all apps that I don't use. I get the gps icon coming on in the notification bar every couple of minutes, though no programs are running (right now only Chrome). I've lost 3% while writing this post. This has been daily now for a good ten days, what is going on?

I have read some places.. and there are few theories

1. they think it might be related to apps that are not configuring well with KitKat
2. some security app that is trying to write to hidden files.. that Kitkat is not handling well.

they all say that the best solution:
hard rest to zero! this will erase all data and apps off the phone.
but it back to ground zero.. but with kitkat running fresh.
then reload your apps from scratch... NOT from backups.
and only a few at a time.. to see which apps give you the issues.. if they even show up again.

I have had Iphone 4s since it was released in 2011. It has been the only smart phone I have owned. But it is time to get a new phone and I am considering either the s5 or the Note 3 (through AT&T). They both look like great phones but I have been leaning toward the Note 3 lately because the Stylus looks really awesome and I think I'd probably use it a lot. Also, I'd like the super large screen too. But I've been reading about all the issues people have been having running KitKat on the Note 3. I don't want to buy a brand new phone just to have it loaded with frustrating software bugs. I would like to hear from anybody who has bought a new Note 3 (with KitKat) in the past month. I'd like to know if they have fixed all the issues people have been experiencing or if they are ongoing.

from what I have read...
there are only a few problems I have read.. are Note3s that have been upgraded to kitkat.. and have conflicts in configuration with older apps.

but I think any new Note3 purchased will have Kitkat preloaded.
so you should not see these issues.

PS. my NOTE3 that was upgraded to kitkat 3 weeks ago.. is fine.

I really am now afraid to do this and have this issue. :-(. I don't want to have to do a hard reset I just got my phone and got everything the way I like it..

you going to eventually have to take kitkat... sometime down the road.. you will find an app you need.. and it will only work with kitkat.

better to do it now.. than later when you have even more things setup.

also.. I am guessing only a very small percentage of users have any issues. less than 3%.

I thought I would use the S pen too, not the case. I had the note 2 first. Love the size of the screen.

I have to agree with this here. Most of the phones having issues were bought before the KitKat update was issued and many of them were due to app incompatibility.

Some were related to things running in the background that weren't before the update.

I think it's safe to say new phones purchased now will already have KitKat installed so you'll be starting fresh--although you can still run into an erratic app you've installed after the fact.

My Note 3 performed horribly for the 1st 48 hrs after the update. All I did was turn mobile data off & used that time to uninstall apps I wasn't using anymore.
