Help Notifications in vibrate mode

So I love my Incredible. One thing I can't seem to figure out is how to have my phone in vibrate and be able to know when I receive an SMS or email message. I was reading up on the Moto Droid and nexus one forums but the fixes they had (outside of just using an entirely different app for SMS) didn't seem to apply to the incredible. I set it to vibrate but it only seems to vibrate when it rings, not when it's set solely to vibrate.

So I ask, is it possible to receive a vibrate notification of an SMS or email when the phone is in vibrate mode? If I'm at a movie or something, I like knowing if I got a message.

I'm assuming you use the messages app? Messages app>menu button>settings>scroll down half way and check "vibrate" (vibrate when messages are received)

The problem is that even with that turned on, it still doesn't vibrate when placed in "vibrate mode." It's quite odd really.

To HTC's credit, I do like that the little green dot flashes when i have a message. it's not intrusive in the least so it's great if I'm at my desk and see it in my periphery. However, I can't see the light when it's in my pocket.

Very weird. I'm in vibrate mode and still get 2 short vibrations whenever I get a text or email. As long as your "received notification" box is checked, I don't see what would cause it to do this.

And this is with the HTC Incredible right? Using the message app that came with sense or whatever?

Hmm I tried turning off the notification and turning it back on and still nothing. Funny thing is, it vibrates just fine on vibrate mode if someone calls. But if I get a text the only notification i get is the little green light blinking. There must be something I'm missing.

I have the exact same issue. I have played with all the settings I can find to no avail.

i had the same problem earlier this morning. Try restarting the phone. I actually wiped my phone... luckily i didn't have much on it. but it works fine now!

Hmm I'll try wiping the phone...That would just require a factory data reset right?

How did you do this? Does this wipe data, apps, etc. as well?

Menu>Settings>Privacy>Factory data reset

It resets everything so back it all up. But it's easy to restore. Not sure if there's a way to save your scenes and stuff though.

What is the best way to back it up? Has anyone else found a workaround other than resetting the entire phone?

Backup your contacts in google or whatever. I'm sure you can backup on an SD card but I wasn't interested in that, especially since I haven't used my phone a whole lot and could easily get it back to where I had it.

As of now a factory reset may be the best workaround.

I've had my phone since Tuesday. Backing up contacts and email isn't a problem. I was hoping to not have to re-download apps but I guess it won't take that long. Thanks for the advice.

I was having the same problem, read this thread, did the factory reset yesterday and it fixed the problem.

Unfortunately, it is back today.

I downloaded Sound Manager and it has a setting for virations. I needed this because Handcent would not vibrate even though the phone was set to vibrate.

Anyone have a non-reset (factory reset) solution for this problem? I'm now no longer getting vibrate on incoming text messages or e-mail notifications. Will only vibrate with an incoming call and all options are properly checked.

I have this exact same problem.. It is annoying honestly. If I set my phone up to vibrate for texts, I want it to..

I think my problem may have been due to installing Settings Profiles. After uninstalling it and doing another factory reset, things seem to be going better.

Yeah, it seems that the problem arose with the settings profiler I installed (Timeriffic) which I stopped using yet it locked my vibrate function in the "off" position it seems. I re-installed it, set it to vibrate and it is now working. Just uninstalled it, with my "vibrate" profile active and it is still working.
