Just updated myself without a hitch and for those who haven't seen it a leaked build of 4.4.2 NC2 has been released rooted you can find more information here:

★ [ROM/ROOT][N900VVRUCNC2][4.4.2] Stock Root Odex/DeOdex [04/23/14]★ - xda-developers

Psa: DO NOT TAKE OTAs after updating to kitkat leak (nc2) - xda-developers

You will need odin 3.09 to flash the firmware, Download your zip and firmware at the first link, put the zip onto phone, boot into safestrap. Stock slot wipe/factory reset, flash the NC2 zip, then reboot into download mode.
Once In download mode hook up USB, open odin, make sure you have com port and select your md5 firmware in the AP slot.. start, let it finish and reboot into 4.4.2 .. updated safestrap 3.72 link in second link psa

Good Luck

Up and running on this now. Did you understand some of the buzz to be that this new firmware may have the 'hole' that the devs need to unlock the bootloader? That's how I read it but didn't want to get too excited about it until someone else understood it the same way. :D

Found a fix for the tethering. And I guess it's not a possibility to unlock the bootloader so much as replacing the kernels, promising either way.

I am looking to root for the 1st time to be able to use sd card features as i have always used them and to keep the OTG features.

1. Once my phone is rooted as above, how do I not take the vzw OTA that will be forced out?
2. Once rooted say next year 4.5 comes down the pike and is for some reason worth (to me) having can I unroot to take that update?

(All of this to keep sd and OTG features! I know I can purchase to keep OTG but nothing to keep SD)

Thanks for your help.

Well my friend, you are in luck! The rooted version linked above has the OTA removed from it, so no worries about ever "accidentally" taking it.
As for updating to the next OS when it comes out, we have a true rare gem on our hads! This leaked version gives us the ability to Odin back to a previous OS! With no fear of brick! So if you flashed this you could Odin back to JB if you want to. There is also some buzz about possibly being able to flash a kernel to this. Although this is not confirmed.
I say try it out you can't loose. You can downgrade back if you want or upgrade when the new OS hits.
But keep in mind you can always un root to take an OTA, but there is always the possibility of not being able to root again.
Hope this answers your question :D

Just a heads up to anyone running HyperDrive and loving it. SBreen is now on T-Mobile and unsure weather he'll make a KK version of his ROM for Verizon. The good news is, if you do flash the leaked KK ROM, you can always go back to 4.3 and reflash HD7. :D

Can you check if android underlining spelling errors when is functional and let me know? Thanks!

Bear with me now because I haven't been in the rooting scene for over a year now (the Note 3 has just been that great stock), but is this the original verizon build or is this via another carrier made to work with the Verizon note 3?

Also is SD card working with Kitkat?

Yes, this is a leak from Verizon, not sure if it is the same as the OTA. It does have the Verizon bloatware, so it is definitely from big red. And my SD card is working just like expected. There are some other benefits that are a little over my head, we likely won't get an unlocked bootloader, but there may be some kernel options in the future. :D

Hello. I am completely green to rooting, roms and really Android as a whole. I have a Verizon Galaxy Note 3. My first ever android phone. I previously had every iteration of iPhone since 2007. I'm loving this phone and the platform. So happy I switched. Anyway, like many other Verizon Note owners I'm livid that they haven't released the kit kat OTA yet. I really want the latest software as I've used the Galaxy S5 and loved the newest version of android. Sorry to ramble. My point is that I want to install this kit kat leak on the XDA site but not sure how to do it. I mean I read the directions and it's pretty easy to understand but do I need to root my phone?? I don't even know what rooting is or even begin to comprehend how to root my phone to begin this kit kat install. If someone knows of any easy how to videos or can give me steps on how to do it I would be very appreciative. Thanks!!!!!
